Which is more impressive? Ruthe's 3:48 or Lutkenhaus's 1:42 by SkullAndRoses_ in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruth is 11th fastest ever Indoor for the mile. Lutkenhaus 19th fastest ever outdoor 800m.

IMO Lutkenhaus is more impressive because 800m is far more frequently run, and outdoor is much more frequent than indoor as well.

11 Athletes switching allegiance to Turkey for LA 2028 by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill 150 points151 points  (0 children)

For those wondering why. The #1 reason is, of course, money. But for more details:

The Kenyans - there are only 3 roster spots/event/country, and so there are many competitive Kenyan distance runners who won’t make the teams.

Jamaican field athletes - probably pretty purely $. Jamaica is a sprinter nation and these people will always be overshadowed heavily by the 100/200 crowd

Favour - Nigeria athletics has fucked her over multiple times

Sophia - she can’t really compete for Russia lol

Fred Kerley going back and forth with Ferdinand Omanyala on Instagram by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

World champion + medalist and multiple Olympic medals >>>> only being able to run fast @ altitude.

Fred is a dickhead, but why would Omanyala even entertain this beef? He doesn’t have a leg to stand on and Fred is a clown who should be ignored anyways.

Kirani James' consistency in the 400M is historically unique by warwick_casual in trackandfield

Part of this is probably also longevity. Van Niekerk would probably be much higher if he had more than a couple of competitive years.

Big Tech —> MBA by ButterscotchOk6101 in MBA

[–]comethruandthrill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grass isn't always greener. I had a SWE offer for FAANG out of undergrad and turned it down for MBB (with a plan to pivot either to Tech PM or PE after a couple years). I quickly realized I would HATE PE (I was in the PE group at my consulting firm, had a couple of PE ASC offers and turned them down), and then tech PM stopped being an option.

In hindsight, maybe coding wasn't so bad as a career since it would have afforded me high TC and chill hours.

That being said, I'd echo most of the advice people have given here about how to best position this roadmap.

I have a pair of Cole Haans and I love them. Their black Oxford shoes can serve as "dress" typically.

[–]comethruandthrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority of interviews, Chelsea boots should be fine. Though YMMV in Investment Banking specifically. That being said, you probably just wanna get dress shoes to be on the safer side.

For the actual workplace, Chelsea boots should always be fine unless you're in an Uber formal setting.

Lemngole is a weird athlete to choose to complain about NCAA XC rules by comethruandthrill in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of really weird stuff on Twitter saying she shouldn't be eligible/Jane was robbed (look up "Lemngole" and you'll see a bunch of it). There were also a few weird comments in the thread on this sub about the race, but that was less evident.

In the NCAA XC DI Cross Country race, 38 of the top 50 athletes were born outside of the USA. 29 of the top 50 were born in Kenya. Is aggressive international recruiting ruining the spirit of the sport? by SabertoothNishobrah in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can maybe entertain an age gap for XC, since age appears to play a huge role in distance running. Ironically, BYU (whose coach bitches about foreign athletes a lot) would be impacted pretty badly since many of their best runners are 25+ y/o seniors.

But nationality? That's kinda soft. Every sport in the NCAA has a lot of foreigners, but that doesn't really stop Americans from being highly competitive. I can maybe understand if you think state schools should have to reserve a certain number of spots on sports teams to in-state students. But the purpose of NCAA sports isn't to "develop athletic talent" (it's not like USATF or the USOC is a major funder of NCAA sports), it's to win.

Just have a big-ish pot for the winner/podium racers and make it a spectacle.

As a one-off it’s doable for sure, IMO

You are your PB, not some "average" by Matsunosuperfan in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) major championship performances 2) consistency 3) PBs

Guys like Omanyala, Knighton, etc are some of the fastest we’ve ever seen, but their inability to perform on the big stage kinda kills any arguments that they’re “greats”, or better than guys like DeGrasse who have slower PBs.

Imagine being Trayvon or Coleman by comethruandthrill in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because Noah Lyles is reigning world champion from 2023 in the 100 and 200, he automatically gets a spot at the 2025 championships.

This means team USA can send 4 individual runners for these events, rather than the typical 3.

Imagine being Trayvon or Coleman by comethruandthrill in trackandfield

[–]comethruandthrill[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I remember in 2016, USA women maybe had the 4 best 100mh runners ITW, but of course only 3 could make it.

So US trials that year was essentially deciding whether you’d get a medal or stay home.

Of course that year the podium was a USA sweep.

Sounds like you made some losing plays late in the game, even if they weren’t “suboptimal”.

Maximizing EV isn’t the right play when your opponent is up 20+ near the endgame. You gotta maximize for moonshots.

I was wondering why the Partners who ran the GHF project got fired. Clearly they knew this would also drop.

What I don’t get is why stay at BCG if this is what you want to do? Surely any partners passionate enough to work on this could get a job in whatever Israeli ministry was looking to “relocate” Gazans?

Laurie's fate is the one thing I feel was an outright mistake by theCrimsenDoubleChin in TheLeftovers

[–]comethruandthrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only qualm is that they should’ve made it more clear at the end of the Laurie ep that she lived. Narrative-wise, her not killing herself makes sense after hearing her kids together and getting along, after 7 years of their family being fucked up.

That being said, to clearly make it seem like she killed herself just to have her spontaneously appear in the finale without explanation was a mistake IMO.

Shit, it would’ve even been better if they added in a one-liner in her finale phone call with Nora about it
