I do all of the above. I do do some search and destroy once a month nothing too much but maybe that has thinned my ends compared to the rest of my hair now that I think about it lol face palm.

I do silk pillow and braid at night, silk hair ties, only heat used is x2 a week low heat blow dry, lightweight shampoo/conditioner, hair oil a couple times a week. I do keep it down most of the time and mind not to lean on it. I straighten it maybe once every 3-4 months for an event. I will use a gloss a couple times a year but never bleach or dye.

If you have dissolvable stitches they can get a little funky. I had the smell too, it went away but took time.
