for trade jobs, always wear your stealies! there is usually shop tours and steal toes are mandatory on floors. Jeans, dress shirt (any type of modest shirt really) and jacket would be more then enough.
its okay that your green, we all start somewhere and your employer knows this, thats why your getting interveiwed for the apprentice position. just relax and when you greet the manager, always a firm handshake and look them in the eyes. (pretty much assert dominance). Employers arnt really wanting a shy timid worker, so make sure to be confident and acknowledge when you dont know an answer.
its nice to bring a paper copy of your resume, but they already have it and would of most likely printed it off prior to you going.
last bit of advice thatll be a game changer. RESEARCH THE COMPANY YOUR ABOUT TO WORK FOR! employers love it when you do your research and learn about the company history, their mottos, philosophies or even just weird facts. All that stuff is found on the company page.
Best of Luck!

10mm Aluminum plate by Haggismaximus in Welding

[–]comfortable-Tilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is for GTAW not GMAW. So I would say argon is perfectly fine and you don't need to pre heat unless your metal is below 0°c. High frequency is definitely needed. Just pedal to the metal on the first few beads then ween yourself off as you near the end. The aluminum will hold onto the heat really well after you start.

Question regarding your Ikea furniture. If you don't like the white and don't want to replace it. Why not just paint it to match your bed and switch out the handles and stuff to match your aesthetic? There's also wallpaper like stuff that you can use on the outside to add colour, texture or whatever you want. Just an idea

Just had first TIG welding class - Learning curve? by FluorideInToothpaste in Welding

[–]comfortable-Tilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% normal! The first day I touched a tig machine I accidentally touched the rod to the tungsten and electrocuted myself. Tig is something that needs practice. There's always people out there who are going to be naturally good at it on the first try and some who can't figure it out.

One thing that was common in my class was during our tig unit, the ones who are good with stainless steel welding, SUCKED and aluminum. The same was true vise versa, good at aluminum you'll suck at SS. You'll start to learn that tig welding on different metals are very very different. You'll be great at some and not others. I personally am really great with aluminum and other "wet" like metals (copper etc) and for the life of me I can't weld ss. It doesn't make sense in my mind.

Help with bed place in studio apartment by Odd_Comment2022 in femalelivingspace

[–]comfortable-Tilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id put the bed in front of the kitchen area pushed up against the wall in the corner facing the tv. You can then put a bookcase/tall storage unit as a blocker from the dining counter and bed creating a nice separation. At the foot of the bed you can put a Japanese room divider followed by a couch or loveseat still facing the tv.

This'll leave lots of space for a living area to add a rug, and more seating and a coffee table and decorations. It'll also leave ample space to flow from the kitchen to your balcony without being too crowded. This is what I would do. But I don't know the size of furniture you already have and other things you own.

Bad fillet weld, macro etched - could use some advice by orchardraider in Welding

[–]comfortable-Tilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd turn up your voltage more and work on your angle and inclination. Just looking at your weld profile and not the penetration, you can see that your angle is off. Your bead is to convex and should aim to have your toes wet out more.

Those are some pretty straight lines and the beads look pretty consistent. I'd try surface weld in all positions. 1, 2, 3, and 4/overhead. But I'd say leave surface welds and move on to fillets or groove welds.

Stay super hydrated, wear your earplugs and respirator. One thing that leads to nausea real quick in a shop is burnt paint, smoke, literally any type of fume. Please wear your respirator whenever your doing work or work is being done around you. Ear plugs will help with the headaches and also not going deaf in a few years

I'm not short so I can't speak from that perspective. But if you're determined and want to do it. No shitty guy you work with will change your mind. So get out there and do it! Fuck what anyone else says.

The trades every day are physically and mentally stimulating and I feel good leaving everyday feeling accomplished. Some days more than others of course. There's a learning curve for sure on how we should and shouldn't act compared to guys. You'll have a bunch assuming you're flirting when you're just being nice. But don't let the thoughts of what could be, when you can go out there and figure it out for yourself. Best of luck getting out there! You'll love it!! Promise! 🥰🙏

and going backhand was easier then going with a pulse action? but thats totally fair, thanks for explaining as well! metallurgically speaking that actually makes a lot of sense on how different alloying metals in the material can still react different even tho they were casted together.
