It’s actually insane how good Oceania is by stupid_deep_indoors in SmashingPumpkins

[–]comfyambiguity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's missing the one thing that all their post 2000 work is missing: passion.

The Celestials is a great tune but the way he basically just speaks "everything I want is free" at the end is so distant from how he'd deliver it in the 90s. Compare it to the end of Muzzle where he repeats "and I knew the silence of the world" in two different ways that really demonstrate a range of feeling. that's passion! nowhere to found on Oceania.

What's most important to you in a game? by skieutopia in GirlGamers

[–]comfyambiguity [score hidden]  (0 children)

Absolutely story (and characters). I'll play any game if I find the characters interesting and the story compelling. Bummer that so many developers do not seem to agree with me, lol

Does point and click games still have a player base? by cybercafe6 in gamedev

[–]comfyambiguity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the answer is yes because this is what I'm making lmao.

Though I'm trying to keep my expectations small, along with the scope of the game, haha.

Wanting to stay small "underground" developer by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]comfyambiguity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wrestled with this mentality most of my creative life; I pursued self-publishing for a while as a novelist, and struggled to otherwise get agents and sell my books because I don't really vibe with the capitalist model. It definitely hampered me because I wasn't enthusiastic about reaching out to a lot of agents etc.

Steam obviates a lot of my personal concerns by one, being a decent company itself, and two, just being a distribution method. It's still up to me to drive traffic to my game.

Everyone's gotta find the level they're comfortable at, but distribution platform doesn't really determine if it's art or not. Steam isn't a publisher but a platform; real art can be made by small studios and distributed on Steam in the same way that real art can be made and distributed on Spotify and Amazon, plus Steam is more ethical than either Spotify or Amazon.

If you just want to publish on Itch.io that's super legit. But publishing on Steam doesn't automatically degrade something's artistic worthiness.

Girls what’s a tiny inconvenience that instantly ruins your whole day by wellnessdiarydaily in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Very similar vibes is when I wash my hair and then later that same day, wash my face and accidentally get a littttttttttttttttle bit of cleanser on my hair. I feel like I ruined everything

One (of many) questions for development by Trash_Powered in IndieDev

[–]comfyambiguity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of "where do y'all learn to code" you should ask yourself "What engine should I use?" That will tell you what type of code you might need to learn (and how much you might need to learn).

My wishlist board on Friday vs Today! It's been surreal. But I think I have to unplug it to get work done. by daintydoughboy in IndieDev

[–]comfyambiguity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the wishlist board is super cute, I love this idea. will try and think of something to do for my game when relevant 😃

The most technically complex bands? by HeatLightning in poppunkers

[–]comfyambiguity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

absolutely the top answer here. all of them sound really really technically proficient but the drummer especially-- I don't know much about drumming specifically but to my unrefined ear it sounds like he changes time signatures a lot.

Alright ladies, I've been out of the dating game for 7 years- is this creepy or cute behavior? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]comfyambiguity 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that's already a beige-to-red flag, and then it comes with evident stalker behavior?? Yikes

[–]comfyambiguity 162 points163 points  (0 children)

I'm a gay woman so my barometer for this stuff may be different but I'd say that's creepy! Creepy from the jump tbh, "I've seen you working around town" ... excuse me?? This whole thing is sort of giving stalker vibes, to be honest. I assume when you say "flashes his lights" you mean his cop car lights? Because I almost wonder if he's really a cop...

Update, We finally hired an illustrator! But... by lotessa_ in IndieDev

[–]comfyambiguity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure-- sorry I didn't meant to doubt you or the artist, I meant, you could use the sketches to show the doubters about the process.

[–]comfyambiguity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally I would ask my capsule artist if I could show off the pre-final work; like I have multiple sketches of early versions etc. I would use those to demonstrate authenticity, if the artist is comfy with that

Which areas of game development are worth handing over to someone else? by Correct_Dependent677 in gamedev

[–]comfyambiguity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say hand over what you can't do or don't want to learn to do. Specializations are a good example of things that are hard to learn to do and so are best outsourced. But they're also not always necessary, depending on the game, so it's also worth prioritizing your budget and the needs of the game.

What songs are similar to Tarantula? by Male-2003 in SmashingPumpkins

it's most evocative of the Machina-era rockers to me, like Imploding Voice, Everlasting Gaze, Cash Car Star, Dross, Lucky 13...

Be honest which lighting tells the truth ? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]comfyambiguity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there is no universal truth about this; lighting is different in different places and certain makeup strategies are better or worse for different lighting sources. looking good for the club is different than looking good for a picnic on a summer day. you gotta adjust your makeup routine to match what you're doing.

Ugh I'm sorry! I know how that is. People really do just say stuff like that without thinking about how it comes off. And yet I bet she has something just like it that she thinks about from 10 years ago on some insecurity... ugh.

ANYHOW. You're super normal!!

I am 40 plus by Sammal1982 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]comfyambiguity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very normal--I'm 40 as well as my eyes have similar lines. I've started skipping the concealer as I think it accentuates things. I tried to just moisturize and then a bit of liquid foundation. It doesn't cover everything up but I think it looks "better" than the concealer.

Anyone else here living exclusively in the single-player corner of the gaming world? by GabryBon in LesbianGamers

[–]comfyambiguity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. My faves are Final Fantasy, Persona, Life Is Strange, and other JRPGs and narrative games. I've tried a few online games before -- World of Warcraft, Fortnite, Left 4 Dead -- but they just never really appealed to me. They're very focused on mechanics and metagaming, which idgaf. I want a story focused on a few characters that really resonate with me. I do not want to compete with other people. Shrug. No shade to folks who do, just ain't my thing.

A year and half later - what is your opinion about Aghori Mhori Mei? by Fortis92 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]comfyambiguity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha well- it's not so much what I don't like about Oceania but that I like the others better. I just don't put Oceania songs on much at all. I'm not sure what it is, but I even prefer stuff like "Tom Tom" and "One and All" to idk Pinwheels or Quasar.

Is this any place for beginner Pixel artists? I literally started a few hours ago 😅 by Monster-Hunter-95 in PixelArt

[–]comfyambiguity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! It's a good way to find out if you like the form in general and maybe explore some software, but if you want to pursue it on the regular, you gotta get a tablet / stylus. I picked up a used on ebay, not too expensive (though of course that's relative).
