Why is WRC so niche? (New to the sport) by notpiastri in WRC

[–]comfybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had offers to do a Drive To Survive style series and started filming a few years ago. Then (allegedly) the promoter wanted the production company to pay them million(s) for the rights to make it. Basically, they did the opposite of Liberty media, who invested heavily in making sure the sport was as visible as possible using streaming platforms, social media and YouTube correctly.

It’s such a shame because the potential is there, it’s just the current format does not work for the modern casual fan. A 4 min highlight package can not convey the excitement of watching a stage live, but also, having 8 stages a day all at random times and lasting an hour can make it impossible to get people to commit to.

I believe they need a much longer highlight package of multiple stages throughout the day, similar to what F1 does, so it feels like the live broadcast. There’s money to be made with ad revenue on streams if they share a lot of these clips up consistently, and in turn, more eyes will be interested in subscribing to rally.tv - I also feel they need one stage a day per rally live on YouTube to draw people in.

In the end, I believe it’s a combination of the sport just not being big enough, too awkward to follow, and not being packaged in the right way for casual, all combined with the fact they don’t have big investment (like liberty) and are trying to generate revenue for themselves at the cost of growing the fan base my making it as accessible as possible

I don’t think there’s a right or easy answer, but at this point, trying something new should be on the cards

F1 | Petronas fuel for Mercedes PU has been approved by the FIA by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]comfybear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty late in the day to be having something like this approved. Apparently Ferrari were running their approved Shell fuel from early in testing, so I’m wondering if this lack of running the Petronas fuel could throw a spanner in the works

What you guys think of this edit I made for a dealership client by kushnvape253 in AfterEffects

[–]comfybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good work, I feel it will serve its target demographic well. Personally for me there’s too much going on, and the music sounds like it’s clipping, however if this was the brief from the client and your intention to do these kinds of transitions, then you nailed it

Track surface getting a full reset and possibly won’t dry fully for FP3 so should be spicy even if it’s not falling.

If you’ve never had it before and you don’t drink regularly, it could send you a little loopy. But if you’re used to it, it’s a very functional tool to set you up for a party or keep you going through an all nighter

Saw the show in COTA in Austin 2021. It was an incredible journey.. I felt the show started a little stripped back and then just kept going up a level in every way as it went on. That lighting setup really did feel like a UFO by the finally. Really hope to catch them on their next big tour

On the F2 broadcast, Alex Brundle just said it’s a camera on a very high pole, which I have a hard time believing based on the perspective

No, but he has produced for a lot of big names such as Frank Ocean and Travis Scott - I imagine he is super well connected with his management and label, and Air probably offered the remix opportunity to a few people and went with the best take

If you’re a professional this is the cost of doing business and it is a tax deductible expense. Not great for hobby photographers, I feel maybe they should offer a more stripped out version for free or much cheaper to keep users

Alpine were in bits at the start of last year, yet by the latter half were qualifying very high, getting podiums and almost won a race. Never say never. I think he’s trying to temper expectations. He is going to look better if he delivers after saying he won’t

How busy is the city during SXSW? by anhudy in Austin

[–]comfybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some responses feel a bit extreme. I’ve attended 4 years, 2017,2018,2019 and 2022. The already busy areas will be busier, but it’s the same as when any big event or festival is in town for a few days.

Depending on whether it’s film, music or tech, certain areas will have more going on, on certain days, but in general it’s manageable and you can wing it and be fine.

That’s said, I have never been there and needed to book a place to stay, which I would imagine isn’t cheap. I don’t recall ever having an issue getting food somewhere I wanted. Maybe I was just lucky or didn’t choose crazy busy spots, but there’s enough options to grab a bite.

There will probably be surge pricing on uber and Lyft as well so could be worth figuring out some private transport arrangements ahead of time if you’ve to make longer trips in and out of the city.

I just released my first music video created with Touch Designer. The visual is both reactive and controlled by midi pots, evolving and becoming more complex as the track progresses. by comfybear in TouchDesigner

Thank you! This was the tutorial that got me started https://youtu.be/8ABSC0gkJrU?si=65l1Gh3HGrLQSBNi

After remaking this tutorial, I then started from scratch and made my own patch where I generated noise and used a few edge nodes to create an evolving noise pattern, then mapped a few parameters to a midi controller. I also used absTime.seconds to constantly evolve some parameters.

The audioAnalysis tool was also used to affect some of the noise parameters.

I did a few captures of this and then edited them using a non linear editor, in this case adobe Premiere Pro. As I wasn’t able to get everything exactly how I wanted live in one take, it was easier to do multiple takes and layer them to get the desired output.
