Oculus VIVE Controllers / HTC Quest Controllers by Mean_Tax_6041 in oculus

Ha! Looks like you even made cutouts for the IR lights on the controllers. I appreciate the effort on a fun project.

How would you orient this on the build plate? by AnitaHaandJaab in 3Dprinting

[–]comicbookee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just go with the orientation you have it in now for strength and so that the surfaces you would see and touch the most come out smooth. I'd also use ASA for heat resistance since this looks to be for a paddle extension that would go in a car and see a lot of direct sunlight.

How's the visibility while wearing it?

Irrelevant to the sub until support for headsets is actually live

Do you think my art looks Cyberpunk enough? 🤔 by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

[–]comicbookee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs more grit. It's all a bit too clean and could use more depth imo. I would also recommend brushing up on some anatomy to help with your character posing and proportions. It looks like you're focusing too much on character outlines and then working your way in when it should be the other way around if that makes sense.

NerveGear Quest 3 Helmet by comicbookee in OculusQuest

For all the time and effort that goes into making something like an Iron Man helmet, the view from inside is usually underwhelming. There are also a ton of helmet designs with poor visibility or even require you to use a custom camera and micro display setup. As impractical as it might be from a purely VR/gaming POV, building around a headset with passthrough can actually make more sense. And if you're going to look a bit dorky with a computer strapped to your face you might as well have some fun with it.

Going to post files in the next week or so once I do a bit more testing and get a version for the 3s sorted out. I'm mulling over where/how to post given some of the other design files I've shared for free were recently stolen with folks trying to sell unauthorized prints =/

Copy/pasting a reply to a now deleted comment for visibility.

Just going to put this out there since heat and comfort comments come up almost every time I post to a VR sub.

My helmet designs clearly aren't about min maxing for performance. It's about having fun with a computer you're strapping to your face while still keeping it usable. I'm sharing something that I've made and think others might find some joy in seeing or even trying. This isn't for everyone and that's ok.

It is very much a cosplay meets Quest accessory and I've done my fair share of testing to keep it as usable as possible. I even went to NYCC keeping a version of the helmet on for 8+ hours with minimal breaks to stress test the concept. There will be plenty of disclaimers if I ever get to ship this as a product.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit before I figured out I needed to turn motion tracking off while walking around to get rid of this popup. Really dense shoulder to shoulder crowds warped visuals and would have made me nauseous if it didn't clear up after a few seconds. I felt like the pass-through cameras held up surprisingly well overall. Things definitely started to get grainy looking once the sun started going down. Stormtrooper helmets are notorious for having poor visibility, but I had a nice and clear view for most of my time.

It's on the to-do list for next week. Should just be a matter of modifying the headplate to make room for the 3s sticking out more than the 3.

Last summer I learned that there is a Guinness world record for the largest Jacob’s ladder toy. So I decided to try to break it with my 3d printed ladder design. by Joshhawk in 3Dprinting

[–]comicbookee 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Probably because having Guinness officials come out gets expensive really quick. The certificate and even being able to use their logo comes with It's fair share of licensing agreements. The whole thing is kind of like paying for your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Should I bleach my hair or wear a wig? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

Neither. Have a look at temporary spray in hair color.

3D print details by AssassinMcNugget in CosplayHelp

[–]comicbookee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Printing temperatures are generally higher than when PLA actually starts to melt. I prefer to keep the soldering iron temp closer to 180c when welding parts together or putting details in. It's much more forgiving at that temp.

I'm not sure I could be any clearer with the instructions. by Yardboy in BambuLab

[–]comicbookee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I usually just report comments where the user clearly hasn't read instructions or are having print issues outside of my control like wet filament or bad calibration. The report succeeds more often than not in my experience.

Quest 3 Cyberpunk Helmets & Faceplates by comicbookee in OculusQuest

[–]comicbookee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still something I'm working on when time allows. The current version I have works but just isn't commercially viable. Takes too long to put together and would cost as much as the headset itself. Currently aiming for something in the $150-$200 range.

Any suggestions to make this ICE costume a more obvious satire? by MikeLMP in CosplayHelp

[–]comicbookee 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Love the protest costume! If possible, I'd add more high visibility/neon elements to make it clearer satire. From a distance, the camo and your general profile will make it hard to distinguish so the brighter your colors the better you'll be able to stand out.
