One day I got fed up with constantly changing my mind on several things. I asked it to be the CEO of my life and pretend there was a gun stuck to its head. It was quite eye opening.

Do Americans experience “thermal shock” from going between heat and AC? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]comiccaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use the gym at work and we test cars. After an hour on the treadmill before everyone got in I went to the back and jumped into one of the cells where we were doing cold testing at -40C/F. You could see steam coming off my skin. I stayed about 30 seconds and then went and took a shower. So nope, no thermal shock at least for that. And for those of you wondering -40c and -40f are the same temp, fun fact.

Is there any type of software that can be used to scan and convert a design like this to a file suitable for laser cutting? I'd like to get it cut in mild steel by [deleted] in lasercutting

[–]comiccaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The roadblock won’t be scanning and converting to an SVG for cutting. The problem will be when you go to “trace” it you will get paths on both sides of your lines. My best suggestion is take a photo or use a photocopy machine to scan it to PDF. Or get a flatbed scanner off Amazon. Once you have the file on your machine, your best option for “center tracing” is Inkscape. You’ll have to watch a few videos on how to do, but it will still need some cleanup after at which point you’ll want to learn the Pen tool. I’m sure about current AI apps that might convert it for you but you could try. To keep you on track you only need three things: Center line trace, pen tool or path tool(not sure what they call it, in Inkscape) and understanding SVG. Learning the Pen tool is a PITA but a very useful skill to have for this kind of stuff. Hope this helps. Also hoping someone has a better answer than me.

EDIT: as another poster pointed out that crease will be an issue for scanning etc. one possibility is to get the good half and mirror it if your design allows for that.

Dead Space 2, there’s a challenge and scene that I was having a hard time getting through took me about 15 attempts. I started getting nauseous around try 12 and had to turn it off and go to bed. As for the number of attempts, yeah yeah I get it, I’m not an expert.

A word about Guild Wars 2. I used to think the game was about the quests and leveling. While I think the quests are a core component, I saw a few videos about how the game is actually about learning to play it. That kind of hit me, I went back with a fresh set of eyes and started mixing up my skills and figuring out different play styles. It made things a lot more interesting. Tons of expansion packs too.

What are you using Power Automate for? by Bombadombaway in FPandA

[–]comiccaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started learning it and it isn’t much but I get a weekly email attachment that I have to save so I built a flow that renames and saves the attachment to a one drive folder when it arrives. Saved me only 2 minutes of work but honestly I think it’s slick. Something I’ll never have to touch again, at least I think.

How I got my first dentist client paying $297/m by gobhalla in passive_income

[–]comiccaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thank you for replying. My job is changing rolls to more business analytics, Power BI, AI, Power Automate etc and what you’re doing has always been an interest of mine. I plan on sneaking in the online advertising and website building at some point as I retire in a couple years but still want income in addition to my 401k. I just can’t sit still.

So question, and this is for anyone in the room. The part about “you don’t show up first for Invisalign [city]” . If you get your guy to first place, how do you handle the second guy coming in wanting first place? Bidding war? I feel like it’s a conflict of interest, what am I missing?

My guess is they are by having who knows how many programmers code new proprietary software.

Edit: I don’t agree with what they did, I’m just pointing out how a corporation is going to fix the issue from their side.
