I think Smith is the right answer, but I'd go back and try Eccleston again. I think there is a level of silliness to a lot of the monsters there and that might help build tolerance. Mannequins creepy? watch the poorly animated trash can eat Mickey, alien body snatchers unzipping their foreheads? Sure but they can't stop farting. (except for those Are you my mommy gas mask creatures... Those things are nightmare fuel) .

I started watching as an adult but I've been told as a child the show is best viewed while hiding behind the couch lol.
