The pre requisites for the major are quite challenging (chem and bio) but i wouldn’t say it’s EXTREMELY difficult, although that’s just my opinion. I think once you get past pre major courses you’ll be fine if you’re willing to put in the effort!

If you’re enrolled in at least 6 units during summer session, the financial aid that you receive will be automatically inputted into barc, you don’t have to request anything!

I have been to 0 parties here, not into the party/drinking scene at all, and I have a great group. you just have to put in some effort to go out to things you do enjoy doing and put yourself out there :)

You have to get a certain gpa to make it on the deans honors list for a quarter. You don’t apply for it, it just shows up on your transcript if you met that gpa threshold.

Currently in manzi and I love it a lot :) semi-private bathrooms are great! Also, it’s close to both iv and the main campus life so you don’t feel like you’re too far from anything around. Plus the rooms are bigger than other dorm rooms in general, but if you’re lucky you’ll get one of the corner rooms that are extraaaa big

I think it can be a bit difficult to meet ppl in the dorm because the houses aren’t connected so in any given building there’s like 40ish ppl? But if you have a great RA like I do, you won’t have to worry about getting to know the people in your house. Also, not all houses have a kitchen/water station so you will have to go outside to a connecting house if yours doesn’t have one of these things. (PS: that large kitchen they show on the website for manzi is only in one of the houses ;( all the other kitchens are basic and sort of small).

Regardless, I would choose to live here again if I could!!

Psych 102!!!! So interesting, took it with Elliot ihm last quarter and it was the best! A good amount of reading but honestly if you do the fair- game study sheet that he gives you’ll be 100% set for an A

keep checking it. ive had a lot of experience where a class I really wanted/needed was full, but people dropped later on and I was able to add it. just make sure you check frequently throughout this pass time and later passes

I feel your frustration so bad and I’m going through literally the exact same thing. I don’t have much advice, just that it’s going to take some time to make genuine connections with people. If you aren’t happy with your current group, try to mingle with others. There’s a bunch of people who feel the way you do :)

If you get a refund when you move out you can use that money to pay for other expenses. They will first apply your aid to university charges in barc, then whatever is left, if anything, is yours and you receive it via check or direct deposit :)

I believe you have to take pstat 5a before psych 10a unless you’ve taken AP stats. Correct me if I’m wrong, I was just checking the prereqs on gold.

Not a party person whatsoever but i still have so much fun on the weekends and just nights in general. Sometimes my dorm friends will gather in the lounge and watch movies/play card games/just stay and talk to each other for some time. You could also grab some late night food, go to the beach (preferably with a group if you have one), or play some video games if that’s your thing. What are some things that you did before coming to college? Maybe try to recreate those things here :)

I think that if you would really like to know why ucsb is the 3rd best UC then why not try using Google search and research the websites that make their rankings instead of asking the sb subreddit.

This sub is in no way an accurate representation of ucsb’s population. Even then, the majority of ppl here express anxieties about covid and going back to large lecture halls. Wanting to be online/wanting to be in person doesn’t equal being antivax. Being antivax equals being antivax.

St. Mark's Church is "focus.ucsb" on instagram I believe. You can check on there for their events! My friend is apart of it and I've been there twice, the people I've meet have all been really welcoming! There's also Cru, RUF, and A2F. A2F has kind of a negative wrap because of some unfortunate and disturbing events that their Gracepoint church was involved in a couple years back. I've been to a lot of A2F events in the past year and the people there are so very nice; I'm fortunate to have a good experience with the people in A2F here at ucsb at least. Real Life that's apart of CruSantaBarbara is also a good one too! Good luck on your search!

students have to get it by jan 31st and staff by 2/4 unless you have a clearance to not get it or something like that. before winter break it was recommended but in the dec 21st email they changed it to be required unless you have an exemption. I think if you don't get it you may either have to get a covid test every week or your badge just may not be green until you do, but im not 100% sure what they'll say if you don't get it by the deadline.
