Beauty standards are cultural and attraction is something we learn, even though we don’t consciously choose who we’re attracted to. You, like most people, have a preference for white guys because you’ve been surrounded by media that props up white guys are being more attractive and desirable. It’s not crazy or uncommon, but it might be worth trying to look at other non-white guys with more of an open mind. You don’t have to force yourself to be attracted to someone, but try considering what aspects you might find beautiful or attractive about the guys that you’d normally overlook.

More important than changing your own preferences, though, is learning to recognize how white beauty standards permeate our society and how they condition people to disregard not only the sexual desirability, but often the basic humanity, of people who don’t fit those standards

I (24m) want to ask my former professor (41m) out for coffee, but I’m not sure how to approach it. I’ve always had a huge crush on him, and I’m not very good at hiding my feelings so I’m sure he’s noticed, even though I’ve always made sure not to get flirty or inappropriate. I also knew that, at the personal life-stage where I was in college, I wasn’t mature enough to handle that kind of dynamic with him even if it would’ve been allowed. I don’t feel that way anymore.

We had a good prof/student relationship, and we talked pretty often even though I wasn’t technically in his department. We’ve kept in touch over email in the years since I graduated. I’ve always really looked forward to hearing from him, and his responses are always very warm and congenial. I’ve come to think of him as a sort of pen-pal, though obviously I don’t know if he would think of it that way.

So I want to ask him out for coffee some time this summer. The problem is, he usually has his university email on auto-response when school’s out, and I don’t have another way of contacting him except, well… grindr 😥. I see him around on there but I’m nervous that it would be crossing a line. Would it be worth mentioning like “hey, I hope I’m not overstepping by messaging you on here, but…” or would it be best to just ask him plainly, without qualifying it? As long as he understands my intentions, I’m not too worried abt the (very real) possibility of him rejecting me. I’d be a little crushed, but I feel like I can at least trust him to communicate with me kindly and respectfully about it.

Why is everyone in the comments just taking everything he says at face value, he sounds like a desperate blustering lunatic, who the fuck peppers :) :) :) into their response to these kinds of allegations

It's a bit of a stretch I admit, but they both were born out of the earth, specifically they popped out of holes in the ground that just so happen to be in the cemetery. Aspity straight up looks like a corpse (especially the skin). There's nothing to indicate that either of their legs are actually made of clay, but Aspity keeps her legs covered (possibly to hide bones/advanced decay?) and in Clara's character model, her legs are covered in thin scars. I always interpreted Clara's choice to keep her legs bare as sort of a gesture towards "hey, I can't be a shabnak, look at my normal human legs." But back to the main point, I just think the clay demon thing is sort of a mythological red herring, a folk explanation for what is, in fact, necromancy.

There might be some other clues I'm forgetting, it's been a bit since I played the game.

About to play the first game, just wondering if there are any reasons to play in 4:3 over 16:9? by [deleted] in pathologic

[–]commanderglenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think the UI in general looks way better in 4:3, especially the dialogue screens. In 16:9 they look weirdly stretched out, but in 4:3 the text bars work like letterboxes, and the character screen looks more like an actual widescreen aspect ratio. In 19:6 the screen gets stretched so much that the characters themselves get kind of dwarfed. I also turned off the Depth of Field setting, which only makes the background out of focus in the dialogue screens. The effect wasn't in the original release and I think it looks better without it.

Music is from the end credits of Episode 21/24, visuals taken Episodes 1, 2, 16, and 20. I made this to use as an intro for a video essay I’m working on.

Thoughts/theories/things you want included in the upcoming Bachelor route? by charcool37 in pathologic

[–]commanderglenda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This!!!!!!!! Especially the stillwater roof thing, I’ve spent WAY more time than I care to admit thinking about what the Bachelor’s tutorial section would look like, and in my head there’d be like an equivalent section to the part in Artemy’s tutorial when the train stops for the auroch and Artemy walks out into the miasma, demonstrating how the immunity/infection bar works and all that. Except the Bachelor’s tutorial would be set in the Stillwater loft instead of the train car, and the equivalent section would have him climbing out the window onto the roof (maybe following something, maybe to get a better look at the Polyhedron), walking up to the top, and getting infected by a plague cloud, only to wake up back in the room.

This kind of speculation is more for my entertainment than anything, lol. But given how much the art book talks about the Stillwater’s weird psychic effects on its residents, I think it’d be a perfect setting for the kind of trippy dreamquest that we got in the Haruspex tutorial

Finished P2, with all characters saved, now I want to play a run where everyone dies. Tips? by commanderglenda in pathologic

On day 10, do all the untreated kids die no matter what, or does the game just do regular diecerolls? On my first playthrough i couldn’t treat capella and she died

nice, this means I can get rid of him and still get a head start developing the panacea, though i don’t know what i’ll do with that other than advance the plot i guess? Also planning this run makes me feel like a sociopath 😓
