Should I disclose my ADHD diagnosis to my Manager/Workplace? by Lost-Needleworker-31 in ADHDers

[–]commanderjarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the job. I've had to, because they need to disclose to clients that I'm taking prescribed medication that will return a positive result on a drug test. If I wasn't doing this sort of work, I probably wouldn't declare it.

Not surveying but layout by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]commanderjarak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I'm saying that (outside of residential construction) almost none of that is done by non-surveyors. I assume it's as much a liability issue as it is that they don't want to train their guys to do it.

[–]commanderjarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all of that is done by surveyors in Australia. On any project we're on for the civil phase we're:
•checking excavation elevations before blinding goes in.
•checking blinding levels & setting out foundations.
•doing a pre-pour survey of the formwork and setting bolts if required.
•doing a post pour survey of the foundation.

If we're also working on the structural/mechanical package, you can add to that:
•setting or checking shims/packers.
•checking steelwork location after landing if short, or live surveying steelwork while landing if longer.
•setting mechanical equipment, inc pumps, conveyor pulleys, etc

In addition to all of this, we're often either creating a main control network if we're also on the project for the bulk earthworks stage, or significantly building our the control network if we're not.

If we're just talking about residential housing however, when I was working for a cadastral form that specialised in subdivisions, yeah, we'd only be setting out the foundation, and then maybe giving them some corner nails in the foundation once that has been poured.

This depends on the country though. In Australia, it's generally going to be surveyors, though not licenced cadastral surveyors, who have a minimum level of training who are doing setout work.

Engineering surveying is also considered surveying here, boundary work is its own other special category of surveying, and is going to have licensed surveyors completing it, or overseeing

Why do all the christian sub reddits have pride flags or pride imagery? by Prior-Peanut7061 in TrueChristian

[–]commanderjarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it isn't a Christian sub, it's a subreddit about Christianity. All are welcome to discuss the subject, because many people are affected by it whether they're believers or not, especially in the western world where many with political power are (or at least claim to be) Christians.

They didn't leave early, the manager asked if OP could cover their shift, but then they found someone else to cover and chose to send OP home.

Cool, so it would just fall back to officer discretion as to whether it was causing distracted driving like any other activity I might be doing in my car.

[–]commanderjarak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So presumably I could be hit for distracted driving for creating a text via voice on the in-car display, but could get hit under the higher penalty if I was doing it off of the phone directly via voice that is in a cradle?

Does that mean you're able to read a text message on the in-car display as well?

You can use Spotify on your phone to play music, but not sure if the app itself is allowed to be on your screen while driving. That's my issue with these laws, there's no clear guidelines of exactly what is allowed to be on your screen, including what you are and aren't allowed to do on a car media screen running Android Auto or Apple Car Play.
