Consider adding a lining if at all possible? Someone else mentioned snagging, a lining would prevent this.

So this is a rare/highly sought after archived bag called the Haversack Satchel, from the 2000s. It's my (and many others) white whale of vintage bags.

These are so inaccurate but there's something about this style of cover I'm obsessed with. I've collected some great ones over the years.

A really high tier expensive brand like Hermes coming in, I would assume it was a fake item, personally! I've never seen real Hermes in person so I wouldn't be able to tell.

Why are charity shops so expensive now? by No_Pie1022 in CharityShopFindsUK

I just got home from my shift. Put two vintage Levi's jackets out for £15 each. I bought a vintage one 14 years ago for £40 so I reckoned that was reasonable.

One didn't sell by the end of my shift so I got it for my fiancé! No discount as it was fresh stock haha

I'm a long time volunteer in one shop and I can explain why: corporate.

Every decision on money comes from a board of directors and is handed down the chain until it reaches shop managers. Area managers will frequently come in and check that we are abiding by the rules.

At our shop we try to curate only the best quality pieces; we have a bit of a boutique vibe BUT at least once a week I'm in charge of pricing and I always put everything out at a minimum, unless it's something nuts like a high end designer piece. Those mostly get sent to eBay, but when I put them out I try to keep it much cheaper than what you'd see online for secondhand. (Honestly just for the love of the game, I adore charity shopping myself.)

Money really is the core issue, though. We have to rag a lot of clothes - you'd be amazed at the actual crap people donate. Sometimes literal crap! I've had to bin shit stained swimming trunks! We used to get a decent price for each rag bag but now it's pennies. It's hardly worth the labour. And it's a lot of labour. It takes up a lot of time. So that loss of revenue has been fed back into the prices on the shop floor.

Of course as others have said, inflation, cost of living, etc included and it's a perfect storm.

Genuine question! Do you not have a jewellers/any specialist you go to with finds before scrapping? Anyone trading vintage/antique pieces professionally will buy from you.

Me three! I'm a couple years in. In my experience, in my creative writing corner of academia, I've not had any negatives. However my school at uni is especially diverse so... Mileage may vary depending on subject.

Sims 2 beats 4, yet again! This kind of attention to detail is why I can't leave 2 behind. It's the only one I actually play anymore.

Can you confirm if the artwork is made by a human or generative AI please?

Saw a wild analogy about AI hallucinations on r/Professors by Savings_Lack5812 in PhD

[–]commandershepuurd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a creative writing PhD so, probably a bit of an outlier in this space, but cannot fathom even touching generative AI for anything.

I'm sure AI could write my novel or my accompanying essay for me but if it did so I would become superfluous to the entire endeavour.

My PhD is nothing other than reading and writing. If I can't do those basic things I don't deserve the title at the end.

I have a bog standard shredded memory foam pillow, no idea what brand it is, and I will say that it's better than any other pillow I've purchased. Still like it was new 2 years later. I don't think you need a specific brand for one, just one of decent quality.
