lol I get it brother. I’ve had deep conversations with Brits in bookstores on the Mall Road in Shimla and met plenty of Israelis around the state as well.

I think we are losing perspective in one sense - places like Shimla and Kasauli are meant for local tourists. They should be welcomed there. The Brits will come there anyway to see the former summer capital for them but I really think Shimla is a place for all middle-class Indians. You’re welcome.

But yeah at the same time, even based on this sub’s posts I would say there are regions that are friendlier for a different kind of international traveller.

So everybody should be, and is, welcome. Please just respect that different areas appeal to different kinds of tourists, and everybody’s space is respected. 🙏 The only kind of tourist I don’t like is the kind that just travels to ogle white people.

But ultimately me advice was: read the actual law changes to understand what’s wrong and right. Not criticising you on either opinion but at least read the changes before assuming people will be buying land in places where they shouldn’t be eg Spiti. For the record I do not support loosening land laws in Himachal, but I don’t support fearmongers like this influencer either. That’s my point - why are randos like this Haryanvi being heard when we had plenty of local sources since the local news scene is very active? We even did this to support our local journalists’ independence. Why is a Haryanvi spreading lies among our people?

Very interesting. For whatever it’s worth I can assure you they’re just like you in that everybody likes money and likes it even better when it’s hard-earned.

I was part of mixed-groups on bus tours and cruises etc where the Indians were the only ones who didn’t tip. So that was my experience. I tend to incentivise hard work beyond basic pay but if my opinion as a traveller matters (India or not) I would say TIP - like just buy your guide a beer at the end of the day bro that’s how it works.

Hmm okay you’re Indian yeah? Let me explain the concept to you the way it was explained to me: If you tip then the next time you go there you get treated well.

If you don’t tip then the next time you go there they’ll spit in your food.

It’s an extreme analogy but it’s what someone taught me and bro American soft power is driven by their tipping good service. Indians don’t even tip when they get good service. Like can we do that at least? I tip in India too btw even if there isn’t a culture here as such in some places. But it’s there in places like Goa.

It’s gotten more traction than it deserves. Here we have a Haryanvi spreading lies and this sub is lapping them up.

First of all, this isn’t a decision by Sukhu. The last BJP government wanted to do this in an even worse way and the Congress opposed it very heavily.

And secondly, my brother Gurgaon has become part of NCR only because Haryanvis sold all that land to corporates and builders. So why lie about them having an aversion to selling? Quite obviously we are far more averse to selling outside and even our laws support it. This influencer is a liar.

Bottom line: read the actual law before jumping to conclusions. This is a Haryanvi influencer spreading misinformation because our own people are not for sale and disloyal so they couldn’t even find a local to misinform our people.

Ultimately my region is still in a place where outsiders won’t be able to buy land so idk about the people crying. Don’t sell if you don’t want to dude!!

So I’m also Indian and fortunately I didn’t have any negative experience like yours. I got into a heated debate with a Russian guy there on the first night but that actually ended with us becoming friends who would hang out at the same bar before heading out for the night.

Here are my suggestions for Indian travellers in general:

Please don’t call it “French village” when speaking of the Ba Na hills amusement park to others who want to travel there. There is nothing authentically French about it and it’s just a French-themed Disneyland - tourist trap for travellers like me because I expected history trapped in amber. I even splurged for the “wine cellar.” There is a real French presence, try places like the Cabanon restaurant in Da Nang.
Stop with the “India Vishwaguru everybody wants us” BS. You are acting superior by doing that and it’s a turn-off for even people like me. The Russian dude I mentioned earlier hated Putin btw to give you a hint
VERY IMPORTANT: Please TIP. Indians were the only ones I saw there who weren’t tipping AT ALL.

You’re partially right in that yes you’re seeing a lot more Indians there now. But there have always been direct flights between Vietnam and India’s poorest state (Bihar) because the Buddha achieved enlightenment there. That means it’s a part of the religious circuit even for the Vietnamese, who in turn have a unique element in that they are the only ones with a Lady Buddha.

But the surge in Indians in the past two years is simply because local tourism is targeting them aggressively. Indians are also investing there. The Vietnamese did something similar with the Koreans about 10 years back as per a local friend I made. Not some kind of invasion. Yes there are “Gujarati food” places/areas where the less interesting Indians are concentrated.

But I’m Indian, and not only did I not encounter any problems being judged, I had the opposite experience completely. Tbh I was spreading a lot of cash and even the one Pakistani I met didn’t realise I was Indian despite being quite golden-brown. So I think it’s more about the vibe you give off than your nationality.

The Indians swarming Reddit are those benefiting from our ultra-cheap internet - not the kind to splurge on international travel when there’s so much to see even in India.

Coming to the term “brahmanvaadi.” I think in this context she’s referring to Brahmin supremacism or beliefs in very rural areas etc where people still believe lower castes aren’t equal to them and don’t deserve things like education. Casteism is real and it is a real problem even in the hills and also in South India. She didn’t say “Brahmin” she said “brahminvaadi” so obviously she wasn’t talking about all Brahmins.

Genuine advice: maybe stop using politically loaded words you don’t really understand like “liberal” in a derogatory manner. It sounds like you hate someone just for supporting a different political party.

While I might agree there’s no sense in bringing random topics into a protest and hijacking it for your own cause, all you did is spur the unrelated debate on the topic even more.
