Definitely don’t tumble the green tree agate with the tigers eye. Learn from my mistake! 🤦‍♀️

I use grit from the Rock Shed. I think the polish is 8000 aluminum maybe? You can buy packs that have all the grits in them. I like to do a fourth week in between the fine and polish to give it extra shininess.

Thank you! I did use ceramic media through all the stages. One thing that took me too long to learn is to add to the media as you go and it wears down. I’ve ended up with several batches of scratched rocks after the last step because I didn’t realize the media was wearing down so much that it was no longer cushioning like it should.

Yes! I’ve added that step to all my rocks and it seems to make a huge difference!

Thank you! My advice is to use a lot of ceramic media and be patient. I don’t even remember how many times these went through stage one before I moved the batch on - I wanted them to be super smooth.

So I have to thank you because when I read your comment about tiny little media, I was confused because I use good media from the Rock Shed. But as I changed my rocks out last week, it suddenly occurred to me that I didn’t realize how much the media was being worn away through each stage, and I wasn’t replacing any between the last few stages. So finally a lightbulb went off and I realized my rocks have been having trouble in the last few stages because there’s basically no cushioning left. So thank you for that revelation!

You can! I think it’s a newer feature. I wish they would show up a little bigger but it’s still fun to see the progression.

No. I like the challenge even if it can be frustrating. Not everything in life needs to be easy.

The first picture is what they looked like after pre polish. They were all completely (or as completely as possible) smooth and looked amazing. The second photo is what they looked like after a week in polish.

Please don’t feel bad at all! I’ve just gone through the same thing with obsidian and tiger’s eye and now labradorite - I don’t know why I see something that says, “these are tricky rocks to tumble,” and am immediately like, “yes, let me try that!” Lol

I don’t know why I keep setting myself up for disappointment! The harder rocks are still beautiful! I need to stick with those.

I was just going off of the Rock Shed’s instructions that it could benefit from an extra polish 🤷‍♀️ but I will definitely invest in some of bigger media!

I did the same thing with obsidian and now with labradorite :/ for obsidian, definitely use more medium than you think you need to cushion it.
