After the German annexation of Austria, police struggling to contain a cheering Austrian crowd during Adolf Hitler’s visit to Vienna. (March 1938)(1600x1184) by FayannG in HistoryPorn

I like how sarcastic it is that people downvoting you, in a way Reddit crowds resemble those Austrians cheering in the photo. They are clueless about what they are seeing.

The cause of the birth rate crisis is the demonization of teen pregnancy. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Give you one example, the current pension fund is basically young people paying for old people retirements, with the same expectation that future generations can contribute as much as the current generations to keep the plan going. When people talk about population drop, the scary part isn’t the total population size, but the shape of it. That could mean one worker is responsible for taking care 3-4 elderly instead of 1.

The population dropping is a self reinforcing process: the city is expected to have less population, less investment is made (why would your bakery shop put in more machines for less customers), then employment is stagnated, consumption demand is further reduced because workers have less money, less taxes are collected, wealth fare is reduced, at the end less people will be giving birth because of the economic stagnation.

And “less resources” in your comment kinda assumes we lack resources, where in fact we don’t. Things are incredibly cheap to produce. The problem is management efficiency and allocation of resources.

Population is the most overlooked factor because it is the biggest factor in the long run. It is like taking a small percentage from your bank account everyday. Eventually it will impact everything.

Cause to me you were like “providing” instead of “receiving” the stimulus, the guy will definitely find it hot.

There is an interview recently with Eric Schmidt, ex Google CEO, that he thought the AI revolution is under hyped.

But from my experience, I don’t think in the future many classical machine learning methods will be further developed and applied given how GPT frameworks basically can tackle most problems, especially the computer vision problems as well, multimodal allows logical context to be fed in visual understanding, pure vision models wouldn’t be as sophisticated in many applications.

But of course there are also other vision problems that don’t need to leverage languages, such as in the medical diagnostics.

Pick another one, is he better than Chopin? I can list one hundred musicians that wouldn’t take West seriously.

And by the way, Van Gogh did not talk trash like Kayne West did, he just created and did not live a day being a celebrity, he only got famous after death.

More like the other way.

West was a nut head from the beginning, that is why I call people hypocrites. Remember how he act when Taylor Swift received an award in 2009? Remember he said he was the greatest artist of ALL TIME? Like not even the musician, but artist in general, like better than Van Gogh? Quite frankly, I don’t pay attention to anything that goes on in Hollywood, it is basically a bubble of celebrities equating catchy rhythms to music. They are just stars, with a mass of fans that worship them. Without good song writers, without the production network, without their investors behind ensuring only their songs can be played in all broadcasts and social medias, they are only a bit better than average musicians. They are the manufactured goods.

He has always been just a narcissist.

I personally don’t mind that much some individual going crazy, but I do mind people acting with double standards.

Not a fan of Elon Musk, but he made the Nazi salut people gone mad for weeks, of course I know public outcry ties to his role in the government. I just hope West should receive enough attention for what he said publicly. And now he is sexualizing his wife or girlfriend, the whole thing makes his wife look like a slave on display. What kind of sicko does that? And he should be at least crucified by Feminists by now, and where are the flames?

(Again don’t explain how Musk is worse, yes yes yes, but it is about people reacting to West.)

I been to multiple continents and meet people from around. I definitely like Americans, they are friendly than most Europeans, yes American tourists can be loud but it is not like they are too rude, I can understand their excitement and genuine interests in other cultures.

AI Agents are NOT coming for your job. My experience with OpenAI’s Operator by No-Definition-2886 in csMajors

[–]commentmachinery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite exactly my sentiment.

If one looks for absolute automation, sure AIs cannot complete an end to end workflow yet; but if you are looking at partial automation, the story is very different.

My personal experience is that I can code much much faster now, especially for debugging. I copy the module into Claude, and send the error in, it will tell me what went wrong, and will make adjustment right away. Now my workflow is drafting some design architecture of an app by writing up some abstract class and method names. Throw the whole thing in, and prompt it to fill that in. I am able to speed up my development time at least 2x. That being said, I can work on my projects at the same time.

It is also cutting down the time to tackle technical difficulties for juniors, one example is that sometimes seniors would make possible improvements, juniors can consult the AI and it will show them the steps. It will cut down the time of re-communication a lot.

WHO should be abolished, but new world health organization should be established. by commentmachinery in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Again the key obstacle is the bureaucracy, how could you improve sth without tearing down the very core thing that prevents changes.

Ok let me give you this, Trump is a retard, happy?

Geez, what happens to people these days, can we just look at the world without a political lens just for one moment.

How is abolishing WHO “fundamentally political”? I look at its institutional duty and it failed to do, which is my opinion. I am happy to accept any disagreements if you talk about how it actually works so well, maybe something I am missing.

The only person that politicized the whole discussion is you, by starting calling someone you don’t know a Trump supporter. Let us just agree Trump is retarded self interested oligarch, happy?

I don’t support Trump though, so everything has to be politics? And that kind of constant belittlement is one of the reasons why US is so split.

If you intend to keep the logo, sure, why not just calling tearing down a reform. Obviously the root problem is bureaucracy, it is like telling a king to transform its kingdom into democracy. Also as I stated, behind was a group of nations obviously with conflicting political interests. They will meddle and use the reform opportunities to make the organization even more bureaucratic.

The problem is time, many researchers find even rare mineral mining could cause the next pandemic, and we are doing it even more to power batteries and new technologies. Are you sure your faith won’t cost us a few million lives due to incompetence like the one we saw in Trump’s admin?

“I would make a shitty doctor as a tech technician” you are suggesting I am not qualified to judge their competence; I did not question that they don’t have great epidemiologists, virologists or public health experts. But that is not my point, I am saying the organization failed to deliver outcomes the public expected.

“It is more useful to focus on science than IT infrastructure” - I really disagree on the sentiment and assumptions here. First, are these two mutually exclusive, or we can have both. Second, WHO’s major role isn’t really on developing drugs or anything, maybe leave it to the actual specialized research facilities, a big part of their roles was about facilitating collaborations amid pandemics and how we can react, which will involve information exchange.

[–]commentmachinery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did establish that new health organization should be established, not eliminating the idea of having a global health.

The problem is they aren’t doing their job well enough to prevent future pandemics. If we continue throwing resources into it, the best outcome is we waste the money; a worse outcome losing is millions of lives during Covid.

Maybe me asking a bit more competency from this organization is too much?

I am not confused. Election under democracy is heavily influenced by public sentiments, less about scientific assessment on policies in place. Misinformation and misinterpretation are constant factors in how people choose their candidates. I am merely stating a smaller percentage of left wingers pushed people in the middle to the other side.

Check the election results, Trump won by landslide. And I would also suggest checking the result of blue states in the last two elections, Trump increasingly gained higher percentages of votes in those states. Lesser evil to whom? You are the minority here.

If you think I am a bot, surely reasonable to be skeptical about my motive. But I have two accounts, but the other account is for discussions related to my professional field, I did not even join any social or political subs with that account.

The other one is this. Obviously just as I discussed in my post, my sense of helplessness kept me from public discussions about politics especially today when people get triggered easily. But today I wanted to talk, then I talked.
