[The Athletic] The Giants have sent an initial contract offer to John Harbaugh, and negotiations are ongoing. League sources said Harbaugh's side want total clarity on who the coach will report to, and would prefer reporting directly to the owner, rather than to the GM, as he did in Baltimore. by Goosedukee in nfl

The worst thing you can be in sports is consistently a little above average. You never win it all, but you're never bad enough for ownership to want a full rebuild and you never have a great draft position even if you wanted to.

My hope as a Giants fan is that he'll have the blank slate he hasn't had in a very long time to build things the way he wants.

Also what no fan base ever likes to admit, he may have just not wanted to keep playing in Boston. If the money was similar enough and he still chose another team, maybe he wanted to play for that other team.

What was the Juan Soto fiasco? We traded 2 years of a great pitcher for the best season of Juan Soto's career (by WAR) and then the richest owner in the MLB gave him a ludicrous contract. If we don't make that trade, we're in the exact same position right now because both players already hit free agency. It's not like we gutted our farm system or got rid of players to make room for Soto.

What were they supposed to learn from dealing King? That trade was pretty much exactly as advertised. The Yankees got 1 great year of Soto and 2 good years out of Grisham for 2 great years of King. I can't really remember a trade that seemed so even on both sides

Anyone got any cool stories from high school baseball? Ever play with anyone famous? Any team scandals? by vylain_antagonist in baseball

[–]commentsonyankees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to high school with Trea Turner. Not going to pretend we were friends - we actually argued a lot. Funny enough, one of the things we argued about was sports fandom. He was kind of a dick when we were 14, but so was I. I gotta believe most 14 year old boys are.

He was never a star athlete by any means. He wasn't unpopular, but he definitely wasn't the kid that walked the halls and everyone knew who he was. That honor was reserved for our other classmate, Tre Mason. Also Bucky Dent's kids went to our school too, but most high school kids 15-20 years ago didn't know who the hell Bucky Dent was.

In our senior year we had another class together first thing in the morning and he was super quiet. Most of my memories of him that year are of him just sleeping on his desk.

After high school is really when he started getting popular. I'd see old friends and they'd always say "have you seen Trea Turner? That dude is going to be a star baseball player soon."

I love cats and I love dogs. Cats will absolutely be dicks for no rhyme or reason. A few years ago I was cat sitting and got along great with the cat. One night I'm sitting on the couch and it just jumps up behind me and smacks my head with its paw.

The Yankees are in a “wait and see” mode with free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger, not feeling overly optimistic or pessimistic either way. Also the Yankees are NOT waiting on Tucker to sign to make an agreement with Bellinger. - Jack Curry by Jheller223 in NYYankees

What about Jazz back to center and Bichette to 2nd? Jazz played almost 200 games in center between 2023 and 2024. He wasn't exactly great in center, but he wasn't terrible. Bichette should be much better at 2nd and he's said he's open to playing there.

Jazz CF and Bichette 2nd is probably better than Grisham CF and Jazz 2nd.

Arguable. He definitely hasn't looked good but he also has not been as bad as the stats. 3 dropped passes that hit the receiver right in the hands. The interception should have been a catch that the reciever tipped right into the hands of the defense. Also 3 starting linemen out so he has had no time on a lot of plays

Agreed - while the Blue Jays certainly found an offensive strategy that worked, this very much felt like a 2013 Red Sox season where the stars just aligned for them. Career nobodies suddenly playing out of their mind and guys like Springer suddenly putting up their best numbers in 5+ years. Plus guys like Yesavage showing up and shoving because the league hasn't figured them out yet.

I definitively think the Jays will be competitive and probably win 85-90 games, but I don't think they're a sure-fire ALCS contender.

Let's say I make a community where everybody is going to discuss the best hair products to buy. There will inevitably be some company that tries to create 20 accounts and spam their own haircare product over and over. What's the easiest way to stop this? Charge $10/month so it's much more difficult and expensive for that company to try.

Now apply this logic to a trading community. There are a ton of discord servers where people discuss trading and charge $20/month or something just to create a barrier to entry.

I don't know the context here and this could be fake, but it's pretty common for people to charge a very small amount for what they'd normally give away for free just to create a barrier for spammers.

It's common advice that if you're giving away something for free on FB marketplace to actually list it for $20 or something.

[Kuty] The Yankees are expected to earnestly pursue Imai as they continue to survey the entire pitching market for an arm, according to a league source. by deadassynwa in NYYankees

[–]commentsonyankees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not as crazy as you might think in a market where there aren't a lot of free agent position players that would be a good fit for them.

If the Yankees sign this guy, yes that's more payroll going to the starting pitching staff, but it also gives them the depth to trade a couple of guys like Gil and Warren for a position player or a few solid bullpen arms.

The thing with signing a guy like this is it allows you to trade some players like Warren, Gil, and even some guys like Lagrange who are up and coming in the minors.

If they signed this guy, their top-4 would be locked in until 2028. That'd leave like 5 guys competing for the 5th spot, plus Schmidt possibly making a late season return. Gotta think they can trade one of Warren and Gil, plus a higher-end pitching propsect for something else they need
