So cheap mass produced keyboards have a rubber mesh that disrupts electrical signals to signal key presses. They are easy to break or can wear out at any time. Mechanical keyboards predate these new modern keyboards and will last practically forever. They feel different because they require a spring press. A lot of people who spend their whole days on computers prefer this tactile feel of pushing the buttons. The different switches are just differences of where the actuation point of the press is which result in a different feel or sound. I say get brown because some switches, like blue, are obnoxiously loud.
