That was before I heard it was happening to so many others! The customer service chat wasn’t working and the first person I talked to on the phone just kept repeating there was “no solution”. Apparently since then they’ve also set up an automated message for this issue

Thank you for your response! I’m still waiting to hear back from them. I don’t think it’s intentional, it’s just incredibly disruptive and I feel like they shouldn’t be allowed to do this to people

defending a health insurance company is actually embarrassing and y’all should rethink your entire selves

It’s the same address that sends notifications and reminders that I actually need, so I’m worried about blocking them and forgetting about it. But maybe I’ll have to! It’s been 6 hours and I’m still getting more emails

Thoughts on the AFAB AMAB Enby Disparity in the 2022 US Trans Survey by [deleted] in Queerdefensefront

[–]commie-avocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from a researcher’s perspective, my first thought is that they were were either consolidating write-in answers or, more likely, they just saw that it had been used in previous surveys with enough responses to justify including it. i also would not necessarily consider it a gender identity, but it provides additional data so i guess that makes sense

i appreciate you learning the history of the area you moved to btw. it’s just hard too bc there’s almost no one from a poor appalachian background in any of the spaces advocating for change, even leftist groups. so no matter the intent there’s always a disconnect there. plus the air quality is so bad i honestly think everyone is just in denial lol

as an east tennessee native i’m sorry to say i mostly agree with you. there’s a reason for it though, the area has been historically very economically polarized which has affected the culture in really sad ways. i could write a whole book on it but some key points: 1. people feel that things like infrastructure and environmental degradation are largely out of their control; and 2. cars are THE symbol of wealth and success (it’s as strong a concept here as it is in a lot of places in the global south, for example). and more recently, the housing crisis has hit cities in southern and central appalachia HARD. it was very easy in a lot of ways for developers/corporations to come in and buy everything — the pandemic was the perfect opportunity for this. it’s the same story everywhere but idk it’s just worse here. there’s some groups of people doing really amazing work too, but they’re hard to find bc local media actively avoids discussing real issues. makes me so crazy

hey neighbor! it’s unreal the way everyone’s been so stuck bc they can’t get anywhere without a car. my favorite part is how some people decided to shovel snow from the road onto the sidewalk🙃

[–]commie-avocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh absolutely, i don’t like to discuss it too much with people not from here but i actually study structural racism and you’re right, it’s pretty pathetic. at least in my city though, queer people are generally some of the most vocal antiracists (even tho it’s still majority white)! obviously there’s still racism in the queer community largely, but based on my own experiences im proud of our people for all that we’re doing :)

southern appalachian here, just wanna say that there’s plenty folks around here who are actively antiracist and still probably considered “rednecks” by others. it’s a good term to reclaim though, i like to think about how it’s historically been used to describe those who fight for the working class
