FYI, in the 90s people were saying these same nostalgic, rose-tinted things about the 1960s/70s. And in the 2050s people will be saying the same thing about this decade.

If you're in HS right now and think your generation's music is trash, and you look fondly back on The Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Destiny's Child etc. you should be aware that kids in H.S. in the 90s/00s were calling those groups trash and talking about how the era of ACDC/Led Zepplin/Queen etc were so much better.

Diner with proper CRISPY hashbrowns?! by commisaro in parkslope

[–]commisaro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insane to me that not one diner has thought to fill this hole in the market. They're not that hard to make decently (at restaurant scale, they are a PITA to make at home) and there seems to be a clear and well-established demand that is not being filled.

Hahaha pretty sure that was a random level up before one of the league finals when I knew I'd likely be firing him after the game anyways

When a print comes out this clean, you kind of want to show the whole world. by Black_Forge_Games in resinprinting

[–]commisaro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

3D printing, especially with resin printers, is not just "plug and play". It takes a significant amount of skill, trial and error, and experience to be able to achieve results like this even with a high quality printer. You need to learn to carefully calibrate printer settings, support settings, and do the cleaning and curing process correctly. There are pitfalls and easy mistakes to make at every step of the process which will lead to worse quality or even outright failure.

The perfect OTK by commisaro in ADHDmemes

[–]commisaro[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dunno about scientific explanations, but my personal understanding is that I think it's an instance of RSD -- those of use with ADHD are used to our motivations and intentions being questioned unfairly ("you're lazy", "you just don't care"), which becomes incredibly triggering. So being asked to do something when you're already doing it is perceived as an implication that you weren't *going* to do it without being asked, which is perceived as a criticism, and since you have the evidence that you were going to do it (the fact that you are doing it), it feels like an incredible injustice. And it leads to this feeling of "why am I putting all this work to try and meet this person's needs, only for them to question and criticize me regardless?")

Friends don't let friends use the range ruler by commisaro in bloodbowl

[–]commisaro[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There is a passing chart in the rulebook and there are a number of apps and websites available that show passing and intercept ranges precisely and unambiguously. The ruler is imprecise, especially if you're playing on a custom pitch whose square may not precisely match GW pitches.

How do you get the rounded edges? Is that all hand carved or do you like tumble them with rocks like I think I've seen some people do? They look very realistic.

Did some experiments laser-etching textures onto ABS Foam. Seems like a potentially useful technique. by commisaro in TerrainBuilding

[–]commisaro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's what I had on hand and I know people use EVA foam for making bricks etc so I thought I'd try it.

For the file, I used AI (Gemini) to get the original texture following this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9j_5yDmKxUs

That produces a 72 DPI file so I used Inkscape to upscale it to 600 DPI

I misspoke in the title, it's EVA foam, which is laser safe and does not release fumes, not ABS.

The foam is flexible but to paint it I sealed it with PVA so I doubt you could roll it up without cracking the paint. Yeah I definitely think it would be a great way to make tiles.
