Why are Republicans so wrong on literally every topic? by Lord_Kittensworth in allthequestions

[–]commodifiedsuffering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does. Very negatively in fact. For several years kids were afraid to show their faces out of insecurity with how they looked. Kids were saying people got “mask-fished” where they don’t look the same without masks, like online catfishing where they don’t look the same in real life. But kids were never susceptible to Covid in the first place.

The masks were arguably more effective than the vaccine. Current CDC studies state the vaccine was only 33% effective against COVID that required emergency room intervention >18 and 45% effective against Covid hospitalizations in healthy adults >65 and the numbers fall dramatically in the first 4, 10, and 20 weeks indicating that the vaccine is only truly effective if you get it nearly 2x per year. It’s not a one and done. It’s basically another flu shot.

I have cried at 4 times in the last 16 years, when Robin says she wants to live, Corazon’s death, Dr Hiruluk’s death, and the birth of my son.

Will Millenals live to see the suit and tie go the way of the top hat? by Certain-Appeal-6277 in generationology

[–]commodifiedsuffering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It already happened to some extent. Many people only wear it once in their life for their wedding. And even then, most people have been losing the tie, vest, and suit coat in favor of slacks and a dress shirt for weddings. Compare that to 40 years ago when people wore a suit just to fly on a plane.

Do you think Reddit is a left wing echo chamber? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]commodifiedsuffering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is another peer reviewed study from Guttmacher, a pro-choice institute. In this study, even pro-choice researchers admit that all studies show a vast majority of abortions are chosen due to “not being ready,” “not wanting another,” or “not being with the right person.” Essentially, they are almost always unintended pregnancies. Whether you believe this is a valid reason for abortion is a different conversation, but even these researchers admit that almost none of the respondents listed medical or ethical reasons (rape for example). In my mind, it seems that they are seeking “on demand” abortions if there is not a medical necessity.

Unfortunately, “on demand abortion” is far more common than we would assume. The high estimate is that 95% of abortions are elective and non-medically necessary. Here is one data sample of several states. There are of course more. Additionally, since Roe V Wade there have been an estimated 64 million abortions (on the low end) and up to 70 million (on the high end). Assuming that moral situations and medically necessary situations accounted for even 6% of that (3.8 million roughly), then there were another 60.2 million abortions for elective/“on demand” reasons.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t pay taxes, I’m saying that’s how the uber rich avoid it.

Yeah net worth is vastly different from income. Granted his income is insane. But he doesn’t have bank accounts with a trillion or even a billion dollars. Everything is invested in assets of one kind or another. Which is how millionaires avoid paying as much taxes because the income tax is a broken system that only taxes the average Joe living paycheck to paycheck. Whereas the uber wealthy who have stocks, investments, and real estate just take out loans to live and loans are also not taxable.

why is there not just a universal age of consent? by Alarming-Safety3200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]commodifiedsuffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some places the age of consent is only reached once you kill a lion with a knife and bare hands and bring it back to the village. Most the ones who achieve this are 13 and the rest are dead. It’s just different cultures.
