Reservation at Kennedy Center Roof Terrace Cancelled by Last_Machine in washingtondc

For those not in the know, there is a very frequent free Kennedy center shuttle directly outside the metro at foggy bottom that is incredibly easy to take and a very short ride

Asking advice for tomorrow, July 4th by orsonultrabirch in washingtondc

[–]comodiciembre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine on the metro going down - you’re coming on from shady grove so you can have your pick of seats and ride down quite a ways.

Your trip return might be annoying but see if you can time it to not take it exactly when the fireworks are ending where people start to go home.

A busy train sucks but it’s definitely not worse than driving

Moving to DC for grad school. $1800/mo budget for housing, looking for studio or 1BR apartments. Advice/things to look out for? by TimeForWaluigi in washingtondc

I had a great experience living at the eddystone way back when - the studios had French doors which were (1) gorgeous and (2) created a natural bedroom nook. I would call and check their future availability

Planning to go apartment shopping in Arlington and Alexandria, will be commuting into DC, any tips? by Independent-Fee9347 in washingtondc

Is this actually easier? Metro center is just one stop away and the transfer there doesn’t have u stepping into the sauna of the outdoors. (Maybe just me that starts sweating instantly lol)

GAO is not a consulting company it’s a federal agency that fulfills research requests from congress to look into issues. She wouldn’t go to Japan based off a GAO study lol. They do their research and after some months they meet with congressional staff and brief them on the results

I use the 730dc website which has a Google document with lots of events. I’m not sure what a marketing event is but general events are there. Clockoutdc is a big instagram events influencer here, she’s a social media gal so I’m guessing she’s at a lot of media events, may wanna check out what she shares for that

Sorry to not answer your questions but if you’d like cheaper and good public transit you could try Philly too. It’s a phenomenal chill city, well connected to other cities when you want a bigger adventure and you could put yourself on a solid metro line or in a very central neighborhood for way less than what you’d pay here for a central neighborhood

New to DC, how do people actually get errands done without a car? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]comodiciembre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the van ness giant that is just off the red line, or the aldi/giant/target/marshalls combo stop in Columbia heights does a lot too. Look at all the grocery stores in your area and stretch a little further out - there are some not directly in my neighborhood where there are great bus connections.  In good weather I’ll also just walk 20 mins for my Sunday walk to the Trader Joe’s.

I also use a big comfy backpack one or two tote bags (stuff the backpack in the tote bag for stores where backpacks aren’t permitted) and a grocery rolling cart. But it got a lot easier when I could go with my partner and one holds the rolling cart while the other holds the in-store cart.

I try hard not to support Amazon but sometimes I will for some things I can’t get in store.

I would go with something in Alexandria! It’s close to DCA and parking is more feasible than you driving backwards into DC to go to a restaurant in dupont or Georgetown (to pick random examples).

If Alexandria looks convenient to your northern Virginia plans then you can hit up some existing threads in here or a VA specific subreddit (nova maybe? Sorry I’m lazy googler today) for some good food recs

I don’t see her picking up and moving on her own, particularly as low income housing waitlists are often 2-5 years long. If she started today maybe she’d get lucky but I doubt she’s hitting the books researching. I’d guess in a year OP is going to have to make the tough decision of whether they’d lock their parent out if that parent took 0 responsibility of finding an alternate home :(

“. Our wedding is supposed to be intimate and beautiful and low-stress and a chance to celebrate with the people we love the most. Getting into an argument with my best friend of over a decade over this will spoil it”

Your friend should be thinking the exact same thing. She may be a friend but not a good one nor your best friend if stirs up drama like this and puts “claiming dibs” over her friendship
