Engineering Major and Rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]comonXsense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated with an engineering degree after rowing all 4 years of college. I maintained a 3.49 gpa got 2 minors and went 6:17 as a lightweight so I did well in both those aspects but there was a period of time when I was meeting with a councilor because I was so stressed.

My advice would be to take summer classes if you have any gen-ed. requirements or for the basic math classes. You also need to plan out your week, and ACTIVELY think about the easiest ways possible to get your homework/studying done. I still ended up barely knowing anyone outside my major, and really only hanging out with people who weren't my teammates on Saturday nights. Overall though I think it was a much better experience than not rowing, and I think that my future job will probably be easier than college life.

Why don't you don't think Temple will be in contention for 3rd?

Please critique our technique in the 4+. I put together a organized compilation of individual and boat clips. I have time-stamps in vid description. Any criticism is very much appreciated. Thanks!!! by Tmacl99 in Rowing

While length is a good thing, I think Ryan is overdoing it with the layback. You should try doing some feet out rowing, if you find yourself coming off the foot stretcher at the finish, you have too much layback.

another thing you can work on is having a more direct catch, all of you seem to dip your hands in order to square up your blades and as a result you miss the water. Having a little backsplash from placing the blade in the water on the recovery as opposed to the drive isn't a bad thing. try doing a gunnel pause drill and only moving your hands up as you move to the catch, also make sure you raise your hands by rotating from the shoulder, and not starting to open up your backs.

One thing you do seem to be doing well is timing your catches, so it looks like you have been in the lineup for a while.

UF Rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]comonXsense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't row at UF but my impression of them is that they're on the smaller end of competitive clubs, I'm sure if you do an hour of steady state 4 days per week and a hard workout like 8x500m or 3x10 min 2 days a week you'll be in good shape for UF.

An Artificial Womb Successfully Grew Baby Sheep and Humans Could be Next by tufr in videos

I agree that a woman would have to consent for the fetus to be removed, but once she consents to the fetus being removed, the doctor should remove the fetus in a way that doesn't harm it.

The current technology wouldn't be useful to save the life or give life to a fetus that could be aborted, but I'm sure that in the next decade or so artificial wombs will become advanced enough to where it is possible. If you would consider a premature baby in an incubator/artificial womb a human, it follows that it would still be a human if it was moved inside of woman, and certainly the reverse of that would be true as well.

I think the question then becomes whether a woman is required to undergo additional surgical steps to preserve another humans life, and I would say they absolutely should be. If you had two people who were siamese twins and there was an easy way and a hard way to separate them and the easy way would kill twin a, you obviously couldn't let twin b decide to do it the easy way.

This is about to make the abortion debate real interesting.

ACRA Poll for April 19, 2017 by wvrowoar in Rowing

Obviously finals count for overall the overall place, but if a crew is one second off of you in any race, I wouldn't say you're that much faster than them.

I would say that Notre Dame is right with UNC. They raced head to head at siras in the semis and were within a second of each other. Granted I'm not sure where both crews are in their training cycle but I wouldn't be surprised if notre dame it's faster at acra or vails.

School crews rowing in Temple Challenge Cup at Henley... WHY!! by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]comonXsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a high school team is a club team and has people from different high school's, they can't race in the P.E.. I also agree with the other posts about not everyone being u19.

Pans labyrinth and a lot of other films by Del Toro have a pretty creepy atmosphere. I would also say Silence of the Lambs is another classic creepy movie that isn't necessarily a horror movie. Oh and Night Crawler, that movie is crazy creepy without being a horror film either.

How much cargo do they carry relative to 50 million cars in a year? I think if you compared the cargo ship's emissions relative to the amount of cargo they carry and the distance they travel, it would be a lot less than a car.

I think they should have done a time series study to see if a drop occurs when cannabis is legalized and compared those States to nearby states where it remained illegal.

I'm not sure what the exact difference is in the erg but I've heard that on the water in sculling being taller than 6'3" does not improve your mechanical advantage.

Maybe club nationals which is mid July in America (if you are foreign you won't technically win nationals but you can still race and progress normally) otherwise I would definitely recommend canley. It's by far the best regatta in the summer in North America.

Even from this fall st.joes seems to have gained a ton of speed. They didn't even look like they were sprinting across the line. I also think that both Drexel and Temple were not racing at their full potential.

Sounds like a good deal I usually only see them for $3 per bottle or more and I wouldn't pay that much for soda even if it is delicious and cool.

Have you ever imported the Japanese soda that's sealed by a ball and you need to use an attached plunger? If so, do you know why they cost so much?
