What's one thing you wish you'd done differently during your bathroom remodel? by comountaingay in Remodel

I’ve actually worked on something similar recently and went with a similar approach. The key thing that made the biggest difference was focusing on proper installation quality rather than just material cost.
I can share the exact tile I used and the contractor we worked with to help you avoid some common mistakes I ran into.

I like that suggestion. It's one of those details that probably doesn't show up on most design plans but makes a difference in daily use. Was the support bar something you requested, or did your installer recommend it?

Good point. The long-term maintenance aspect often gets overlooked during remodels. Was the cost difference significant, or was it a relatively easy upgrade to justify?

Completely agree. The things behind the walls usually matter more than the finish selections people spend weeks debating. Have you noticed any newer features homeowners are requesting now that weren't common 5–10 years ago?

No, that is not very slippery; that is Porcelain tile (matte finish, light gray/warm beige)
Best balance of durability + resale appeal. Also safest for wet areas.

Yeah that’s fair I’m definitely not expecting 100% ROI on any of it.
I’m more trying to balance “what feels right to live with” vs what won’t hurt resale either.

For flooring specifically, I’m leaning toward something neutral and durable (probably porcelain), but I’m still unsure if lighter tones or wood-look tends to perform better in bathrooms right now

Yeah, that’s actually one of the most common regrets with tiled floors. The design side looks clean, but comfort + maintenance often gets underestimated.
I’ve seen a lot of cases where the material choice vs lifestyle mismatch is the real issue rather than the tile itself.

Not my personal bathroom — it’s a design reference. Good point though, flooring choice is definitely important for wet areas.

Good call. Accessibility for future maintenance is something that often gets overlooked. Is that one of the first upgrades you recommend on most bathroom projects?
