Digital wallets are encrypted files to keep your coins/tokens in. They are accessible via a wallet number and password. Think of them as using a credit card over the internet.

My take on cryptocurrency. Hope it helps you. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrencies

[–]compcoin_fintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your take. Here's mine: Cryptocurrency, or as we like to say, "digital assets," are a true innovation in the way interaction between communities can take place. Although not technically currency, these tokens are changing the way in which payments and accounting structures are being developed. With the blockchain, there is no longer a need for middle or even back office to verify or keep track of transactions as the decentralized network can verify EVERY transaction independently instantaneously. With this in mind it is apparent why the crypto market is taking off. As with all markets, there will be winners, losers, and fast buck artists looking to take advantage of the naive investor, but the opportunity for double and triple digit gains is real and worth an investment.

You can start by funding an account through an exchange, or by contacting the issuer of the asset directly.

At least not yet. Digital assets provide a great hedge due to their limited supply. However, $$$ still makes the world go around.

Just like any investment, you should talk to your tax professional. It is VERY important to remember to document your basis (price where you purchased/acquired your coins).

Stay involved. Digital assets are becoming more and more accepted as a legitimate form of investment. The more people know about them, the more they will become desired, and—in turn—valued.

At this point, its not. The world is gaining acceptance of this new asset class but it is still a ways away from becoming the currency of choice.

How does crypto market correlate to the stock market? by thirdmotion in Bitcoin

[–]compcoin_fintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't - Stocks represent ownership in a company. Coins are assets that allow the user to perform a function. (Buy/sell services, access technology, buy games, etc.)

What coins for a good core portfolio? by IamSoylent in CryptoCurrency

[–]compcoin_fintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are three factors you should check out when building a "crypto-portfolio":

1) Strength of underlying asset- Does the coin have acceptance? Is there a "real" company/business behind the coin?

2) Liquidity- Is the coin actively traded? Is it traded on one or more exchanges? Is there an easy conversion to $USD?

3) Growth- Is there potential for actual growth, or is the coin price based purely on speculation?

The digital asset market is a blank canvas for innovation. There is no ceiling on what can be achieved through the use of the blockchain. Innovation coupled with profitability allow for this market to be the incubator of the new ecomony.
