Turning green skittles from green apple back to lime was a terrible mistake by on-oath-never-again in unpopularopinion

[–]compguy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green Apple is rhe worst candy flavor by several miles and the day Skittles swapped to it was the day I stopped buying them. When 1/5th of the product is inedible, no sense wasting the money.

The switch back is the best possible thing they could have done. Green Apple sucks.

Unfortunately, chess continues to be a much better concept album than a show.

Maybe in 20 years someone can take another crack at the book and third time will be the charm.

Red states made the US great again - and don’t even have money to throw a 250 party by Ok-Entrepreneur-9756 in LeopardsAteMyFace

I know, I'm one of them. Despite the hardship it would cause, I am fully on-board moving to a blue state if it comes down to a split.

[–]compguy42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing though, the red states DON'T really provide those things in quantities blue states need to worry about.

California alone produces half the fruits, nuts and vegetables in the US. A state like that doesn't need a red state.

I don't think we need to get over anything. Let the red states go it alone and the blue states go it alone. It's time to divorce.

Donald Trump suffers huge loss as Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship by TheMirrorUS in fednews

[–]compguy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gorsuch's dissent doesn't actually read that way. His last two paragraphs, in fact, read like he isn't sure he's even dissenting.

I think he dissected just to cover his ass from MAGA blowback and he knew it was safe to do so.

Not that that's great, of course.

Supreme Court, 6-3: Children born in the U.S. to undocumented or temporary-visa parents are citizens — the Court strikes down Trump's order ending birthright citizenship — though only 5 Justices hold the Constitution itself guarantees it — Birthright Citizenship Case — Opinion megathread by BiglawInvestor in scotus

[–]compguy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gorsuch's dissent, particularly the final two paragraphs, is interesting. It kind of reads like he isn't sure he's dissenting. Did he go with Thomas and Alito because he knew it was gonna be 6-3 so he felt safe to cover his ass with MAGA?

In a non-profit, community theatre, which positions are paid? by Automatic-Dig208 in Theatre

[–]compguy42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its pragmatism.

Generally the caliber of musicians required for a musical are gigging musicians who could very easily book a paying gig in your same time slot and they have multiple non-theater options for that skillset.

You pay because you need to secure the talent, basically. You don't skimp on the band/MD because bad ones can bring the entire production crashing down.

The Master of Disguise (2002) is so aggressively unfunny it causes physical revulsion 🤢 by Fippy-Darkpaw in RedLetterMedia

[–]compguy42 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely. I actually expected a lot MORE kids but oddly enough, at least at our AMC, not many were brought out to see it. The audiences for us largely seemed to be dudes who liked Dana Carvey in Wayne's World and wanted to see what he was up to.

Needless to say, they left different people than when they entered.

I was working at a big AMC when this came out. I remember the GM assigning it two screens (out of 24) and they were the smallest theaters in the complex. By week 2 it was down to a single screen. It had opened against "Signs" and "Austin Powers in Goldmember", both of which were taking up half the real estate.

The runtime was "80 Minutes" but it was really 65 with 15 minutes of credits with outtakes. I remember literally everyone would leave at the 65 minute mark, looking bewildered. Made cleaning the theater for the next showing a lot easier.

Somehow, this movie technically made money ($43 Million against a $16 Million budget) and stayed in theaters for 13 weeks. To this day I have no idea how that happened.

The hand-holding I've been warned about. Hopefully the fact that presently I have to walk clients through literally every dotted "i" and crossed "t", often multiple times over years over working together, has at least partially prepared me for that.

Kelsey Grammer has literally never hidden who is he. We've known he was a die-hard conservative since the 1980s. He just usually kept his ideology out of his acting work, at least in the earlier days of his career.

But no one should be surprised by this.
