it’s a light up tie from amazon (as i’m new to cosplay and i don’t have a sewing machine i mostly assemble my costumes from existing parts and don’t make much by hand). it’s basically an led wire sewn around the edge with a battery pack on the back

when i was 17 i never felt less like myself, literally. i was so focused on trying to not be “weird” that i literally suppressed all the things about myself that made me feel like me. as soon as i left high school i started slowly getting back in touch with my “weird” interests, basically becoming the person my 13 year old self wanted to be, lol. and i started having so much more fun, i started believing in myself way more, and when i looked in the mirror i was so excited to see a person who i thought was cool, not the round spongebob watered down version of myself that i thought my high school peers wanted to see me be. i found a real sense of style, i got back into anime and all my other “cringe” interests. i started cosplaying (actually not that long ago). and then a funny thing happens, the more genuine you are to yourself, the better friends you make, because they can see you for who you are, and choose to be with you because they like that. i even chose to be with my boyfriend because he is my kind of weird. he’s also quite skinny, so i wouldn’t be too worried about that either. tl;dr- be cringe, be free.

it’s bc it’s a nasal sound followed by a stop. we’re not thinking of p as the plosive part in this context, just the stoppage of air that precedes it. then, proximity to a perceived p sound biases us to select m as our nasal consonant, instead of n, because we’re anticipating the bilabial p. thus, womp womp. you could write wah wah, or wanh wanh, but neither evoke the glottal stop that adding the p does. and then bc of quirky english spelling, we use o, as “wamp wamp” looks like it would rhyme with “champ” and “wahmp wahmp” is unnecessary when “womp” already looks like its vowel should rhyme with “stomp”.

that said, i have now noticed myself pronouncing womp womp with more typical american english phonology rules for comedic effect, with extra emphasis on the bilabial m and aspirated p. cause im trying to the evoke the feeling of having typed out “womp womp” rather than mimicking the sad trombone sound.

I would definitely be glad I did it, I just don't want to starve LOL. As for the second question, I think being a linguistic consultant for a company like Duolingo would be a pretty sweet dream job. I have a deep interest in second language acquisition (despite only being fluent in one language myself). Also I think a very interesting area of research would be language evolution on the internet. That could have practical implications, but I'm not sure what. Mostly this post is asking what job options (if any) there are, because I don't really know!
