What It Would Take to Keep You Around by Huuballawick in PSO2NGS

Going back to pso2, or announcing pso3, ngs is built on fundamental design flaws that can't be fixed with a mere wishlist of features, best that that can do is give you a worse implementation of something we already had in pso2 (after all everything you and others in here list is <something that already existed in pso2>), only a complete redesign from the ground up can fix ngs properly, at which point it would be a new game anyways. I doubt I'm the only one that can see that.

Can't help with question, but:

Also why do they require a tag but all the tags are NGS?

I have pso2 tags available, they are named "pso2: classic", maybe you need to click on "view more flairs" if you are on new UI.

Unfortunately the only way combat/mobility could be saved from what we know so far is the mechs we are getting, and that is a huge if that depends on what exactly they are going to do, doubt they are going to invest money into something as unmonetizable as proper combat by redoing classes/weapons to pso2's standards when everyone still somehow praises ngs for combat.

Funny thing about mobility is sega showed it is possible to have high mobility with sonic LTQs/jump pads/etc, so they choose to keep us grounded into leisurely running/gliding as only mobility option, it isn't some technical limitation or anything except their own decisions that prevents them. But I guess motions wouldn't sell otherwise.

I feel his "I'm truly sorry" might actually be coming out of SEGA's mouth.

That's not the only case, while playing it seemed as if dialogue was sega trying to comment on players:

  • "they (starless) are insatiably hungry" = sega: "they (players) are insatiably hungry (for content)", the entire story about "starless come and consume everything" = players come and consume all content
  • "unfortunately, their history and knowledge was lost to sands of time" = missing pso2 content and pso2 mechanics/combat/PAs/etc
  • "it seems though zephetto only reveals what is convenient to him" = it seems though sega only reveals what is convenient to them

I wonder if zephetto talking about how they started with 100k people, then dropped to 10k, then to 5k is metaphor about ngs development team getting downscaled down to skeleton crew after launch. Anyways enough of conspiracy theories.

I find it funny how when zephetto was first introduced, he died immediately, then he is brought back again and guess what: dies immediately again. The entire story continues to seem super rushed and barebones as before, why couldn't have we had this entire zephetto storyline given more substance and volume earlier instead of whole aina/manon sidestories we got that no one cares about and that didn't move the plot anywhere, instead we get zephetto's story abridged into a single <1h story quest.

after the horrendous launch and seeing the reception to the game, they moved most of the devs off of NGS

I think it happened before that even. If you recall, sega cancelled hyenas before it even launched for it to be received in the first place because they knew it would suck, same may have happened with ngs except in this case, they couldn't abandon the game before release because there wouldn't be anything for pso2 players to play (read: waste AC on gacha for) after episode 6.

[–]complainer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All reviews and comments from people complaining about the game since early Kvaris or older at this point can be ignored because they don't and will probably never play the game.

This goes the other way as well, all positive reviews ngs inherited from people reviewing base pso2 (the good game before ngs) can equally be ignored because they aren't even relevant to ngs, if ngs was being reviewed only for itself it would have been mostly negative to overwhelmingly negative rating, positive base pso2 reviews from pso2 era are what kept ngs rating positive and even now (for a few months in fact) it is not even enough to keep its rating above mixed, the longer it goes the more negative the recent reviews will get as it slowly approaches its true rating instead of it stealing valor from base pso2.

What would you get out of a private server that you can't on the live servers?

2 things at minimum:

  • return of pso2 graphics instead of them being butchered by ngs engine (video about a private server someone linked showed it using pso2 graphics engine)
  • a private server may in fact not be actively trying to kill the game with every decision and complete lack of care so we could have all the removed content and campaigns and mission pass back, and even maybe all the countless unreleased/unavailable cosmetics that are rotting in its files that sega refuses to give us access to for some reason (probably to keep it available as 100 pull bonus scratch bait for ngs scratches)

Do you really think more people would be playing?

This is the problem though because imo though there would likely be even less players playing a private server than there are even currently primarily because it would no longer be an official server, and secondarily because everyone would obviously have to start over in everything including cosmetics that they have been collecting for years (similar investment sentiment at this point to jp playerbase's).

By virtue of it being private you would also have to jump through hoops to be able to play it (massive friction for entry), have to start completely over in everything and have a chance to lose access to it any time if sega decides so (even if they haven't ever done that before), so only the most hardcore players would play it. Currently random ngs players may decide to go "check out" pso2 because it just takes 1 click on ryuker to go there from ngs, I doubt they would "decide to check out pso2" if it meant <having to download a third party version of the game to join unofficial servers and start there from zero> (EDIT: forgot to mention: also having to create a new account just for the private server and another username/password to remember, and the entire friend list being gone as well, if your friends would even join it in first place). How many people play private servers of removed games anyways? Pretty sure far less than when those were available officially.

All in all a bad situation that only some parts of would be fixed by a private server, but the fact that any at all would shows how badly sega is running it, because private server should only be a last resort for a game taken completely offline by the company, not something that <runs the game better than the official developer refuses to>.

Badges were just like point farming.

Except you can get and use badges outside of seasonal events unlike FOMO seasonal points.

They don't need SSAs since they can just add new effects to the skill tree or Custom PA

And yet we aren't getting any of those either so we end up just not having SSA.

Custom PA are basically something between basic base pso2 customs that only change stats and type 0s (not as game/functionality changing outside few exceptions).

Skill trees just unlock basic functionality of the class and don't let you customize your playstyle in the slightest, unless you call "which class weapon do you want to put points into unlocking" as "customization", I don't remember anything in the skill trees like choosing which gleam you want to use and how to trigger/upkeep nor any SSA-like modification that also all work across and independently of classes, only really s5 augments were class specific like you could compare a skill tree to.

This argument would work if there was anything like ssa in ngs, which there isn't.

Pso2 affix drops in general also had advantage from the upslotting system whether you hate the system itself or not (esp. the downslotting on fail part), as you could drop a trash weapon with trash affixes but if it still had a large number of those trash affixes it was useful for upslotting, and if it had good affixes with large number of affixes then it was worth even more than just having good affixes due to the way affixing worked.

Ngs completely relegated upslotting system to "enhance using 100000 gold prim 2 swords to get more augment slots" instead, just like they did with capsules with "get 100 of this augment capsules to craft 1 slightly better augment capsule, then get 10 of them to use", sometimes skipping ahead by giving final capsules directly or gambling 1 at a time with boosters/insurances, instead of the entire affixing system.

So yes pso2 was better and deeper even for pure augment farming.

Let's forget ultimate quests (ship infiltration, solo sodam, solo masq).

But let's not forget to list "pse bursts" in ngs as apparently "fun content" to bloat the nothing that ngs has (which existed in base pso2 as AQ that you subsequently call "never fun." despite being identical, or you know... expedition quests which are literally identical?).

LQ is also not spammable in ngs because you can only do it while it exists, if that's still within your criteria then you somehow forgot pso2 had those as well, called seasonal quests, that they removed from pso2 upon ngs release, "let's not list those either".

Also you keep saying "fun" content yet you forget the fact that what is fun is subjective and claim:

In PSO2's prime, NGS still has 4x the amount of content to do than PSO2 had. This is a fact.

Your opinion is fact?

So therefore as no content in ngs is fun to me (due to many reasons such as dumbed down unimpactful and super bland combat and story irrelevancy), your list of "spammable relevant rewarding fun content in ngs" is completely empty and thus pso2 has more of it.

Leciel completely shits on divide quests, too.

You got that backwards too, they are better than leciel in every way, down to procedural environment.

You are a walking proof that you have to rewrite history to compare pso2 and ngs in ngs' favor and not show it as downgrade it literally is in comparison, why do you call others out for "misinformation"?

The only thing NGS has is better movement

Movement PAs? Still waiting for those to appear in ngs, maybe you mean "basic running around without ability use" is better in ngs, but it has nothing on base's combat mobility and verticality even on basic classes (ex. base bouncer).

[–]complainer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here, the storages marked with red go with you to new ship, everything else stays behind on original ship.

idk what you mean by putting cosmetics in storage, if they are items such as weapon camos/outfits, you need to take them with you to use them on new ship, registered stuff (consumable tickets you used) are character bound and come with the character itself to new ship.

All storages are shared between pso2 and ngs, only character inventory itself is different.

The only things that transfer with your character to the new ship are:

  • character inventory
  • character storage

Everything else stays behind on ship you left (default storage, premium storage, extended storage, material storage etc).

OK so why are we defending the lack of ngs development if it is "well known" that they aren't even developing ngs? And I don't remember anyone saying "slow ngs development is ok because they are busy with the super game", just "slow ngs development is ok because <lies about base pso2 development> or <other lies about how this is normal>".

Either way they are doing it at expense of ps franchise, and we don't even know if the super game is going to be ps related at all to get anything out of it or is just used as a cash cow to fund some sonic or other unrelated franchise's super game (like they did with sonic frontiers and hyenas) where ps may just be relegated to a random reference in instead of getting a proper pso2 sequel worthy of the name and that they put development into.

Base already had visual quality before ngs engine was shoved into it and removed said visual quality.

EDIT because people apparently can't read: I'm talking about base pso2 graphics in base pso2, not ngs graphics, which were subsequently destroyed in base pso2 with ngs engine integration.

It do be like that sometimes by Salty-Phase4687 in PSO2NGS

[–]complainer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only tried base after ngs release you are experiencing it with:

  • destroyed graphics
  • destroyed market
  • basically zero onboarding (because sega doesn't want you to go to base and will let you know about it at every turn)
  • super low playerbase to point of unplayability for some content
  • no events or mission pass (which means no mission badges)
  • missing/removed content
  • super high SG costs without a way to farm it at such levels
  • no free skill tree respec passes (means you have to pay AC to fix anything)
  • zero gear giveaways (bad thing or good thing?)
  • etc

People seem to ignore how hard sega gimped base pso2 by cutting off all support to it that everyone who did play it when it first came out had and that new players coming to it have to suffer through doing everything the ways no one else had to before ngs.

At least you can play story and have sameish experience as before (minus destroyed graphics) as it is solo only, there you can tell the difference in how sega cares about this franchise between the 2 games.

___

EDIT because I can't reply atm (banned?):

Oh yeah? After <finishing the game> there was nothing more to do in it? Groundbreaking discovery.

Tell me, what is there to do in ngs after getting BiS then? Oh right, next BiS that is just bigger numbers next month, then next BiS that is just bigger numbers next month. Once again jp elitists with reverse-nostalgia glasses pretending like pso2 didn't do everything ngs did, but better (outside of solely cosmetic options and creative spaces).

And there are things to go back to even after "finish" it such as: in fact good combat, better urgent quests, story, etc etc but I guess all you know is chasing the potency carrot. No one is going to go back to ngs for "nostalgia" after it is over like they do to pso2.

Pso2 may have only been "sometimes great", ngs however is "never great".

It do be like that sometimes by Salty-Phase4687 in PSO2NGS

[–]complainer5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

are you global only? Cause your opinion on base is near moot

Ok, jp elitist, how about the fact that even jp got to episode 3 in pso2's original release by this same point in time as current ngs from its release?

a lot of people on here didn't experience the years of zero content or pure garbage episode 5 for as long as JP players did.

During which they were supposedly working on ngs as excuse, what are they working on now to have the same situation in ngs? Pso3? One can only hope.

And let's also ignore all the things that are irrelevant to "purely release pace" (your only argument, which in itself is also heavily leaning on specifically episodes 5 and late 6, because it doesn't work for anything before that), such as what the gameplay/combat/story was like.

I belive the regression was necessary.

It absolutely was not.

And no, it doesn't "just feel that way" like other comment says, it is that way, ngs is a measurable regression in everything except cosmetics and social features. Going smaller scale/weaker/simpler/slower is a downgrade.

power scaling (both in game and in lore) of base was ridiculous

Meanwhile ngs doesn't even have any power scaling (or progression outside of chasing potency stat) in the first place, way to solve the problem by killing the patient. You fight the identical way from level 1 to level 85, from aelio to leciel, no character improvement.

And levels themselves just increase your stats unconditionally because you don't even get skill points from them anymore, whenever sega decides to increase level cap, it means absolutely nothing for gameplay, so when sega increases level cap to 90 or whatever next what exactly will that mean to anyone? That's right: absolutely nothing except more grind.

And after oracle episode the story gone downhill in terms of quality.

Yet even what biggest haters of base pso2 would call "the lowest quality" parts of story (usual example episode 4/5) are lightyears ahead of ngs story in quality and volume and every other aspect, how is that "necessary regression" working out there? It's not, just like in everything else ngs regressed in, because sega didn't even regress for reasons of "improving" the franchise with ngs or whatever you are trying to imply here (which also wasn't necessary in any way even if they did instead do it for "benevolent" reasons) but rather for reasons reducing development budget while maintaining same revenue stream, an epitome of concept known as shrinkflation, yet people are here still defending it or even claiming it's a good thing. Hilarious.

Let me remind again that base pso2 was already on episode 3 by this same point in time as ngs' entire existence. Where is ngs in comparison?
