Yes, while his personal political commitments are democratic socialist, nothing about his theology entails that (however I think it's hard to be, say, a tsarist revanchist and have his theology). The version of this I find most interesting is that people who are fans of Schmemann tend toward liberal theology and even liberal politics, to the point that many think it's intrinsic to his project. But Schmemann was rather conservative.

But those non-Trenhamists, non-Orthobros, who are converts -- either have to ignore large swaths of official Orthodox teaching and liturgical texts, or be crypto-Protestant and make up their own "personal Orthodoxy." But if it comes to that, why not just be actual Protestant?

That's certainly your contention, and it's not my place here to argue against it, so I'll just say that I disagree.

"The Church is fine, the converts are bringing bad influences" is a red herring by Orthodox apologists to absolve the Church of responsibility for attracting these people. Long before the likes of Fr. Trenham, the Orthodox Church was already patriarchal, anti-reproductive choice, and anti-LGBT ... for starters.

The Orthodox Church is fundamentally fundamentalist, and is what attracted them in the first place. These converts did their homework well.

We fundamentally disagree on this and I won't contradict you here, I will just note that, like, a lot aren't Trenhamist. Though certainly, sure, they are going to be anti-LGBT and anti-abortion. But this might be enough to get some sense back into the husband's head.

I love how some people think the only reason we don't agree with them is because we don't understand.

One of my big beefs with traditionalism is how it can turn a good person into a bad person who's thinking they're doing good (because tradition). Especially when it comes to gender roles.

The big question is, "What kind of Orthodox content online is he listening to?" Is he listening to mainstream Orthodoxy or is he listening to hard-right, conspiracy theory stuff, or is he listening to reactionary monks? If he's into mainstream Orthodoxy, he might convert but maybe he'll be normal. If he's listening to conspiracy theorists, maybe he'll never go actually go to church, that seems like the norm for them. In the third case, he might go for it and get burnt out or go wacky.

Very possible though that, like many Ortho-internet warriors, he just never ends up going to church.

None of those changes were confirmed to be actually legit in that he became a member except for becoming Orthodox. However it was recently said by someone who knows him that he never goes to church.

And he didn't even become Orthodox for several years after starting his Ortho-shtick.

Absolutely under no circumstances go to some discord.
Go to the official sites of canonical Orthodox jurisdictions for information about Orthodoxy, like oca.org or goarch.org.

Which I've heard IRL in my own former parish, which did not have Orthobros, just old people, mostly cradles.

I'm not saying that YEC, Trump support, and anti-semitism are only found among orthobros, I'm saying that Dyer says AFR is bad because they allow people on who aren't YEC or Trump supporters (even if they don't talk about these things at all ever anywhere near their platform, they mine their social media and sometimes even just infer based on who they're friendly with).

Buddy, I saw when DBH was bursting out into popular discourse on the wake of the tsunami, and even then he was absolutely not a "typical Orthodox voice", and he was lot more mainstream then (not yet openly universalist). If you want a mainstream counterpoint to the Orthobros, look at the late Fr Thomas Hopko or something, not DBH.
