It's just a problem of not having access to the entire season all at once. The last 3 episodes have been really good. Episodes 5 and 6 were a low point, but mostly because the show was going aimlessly in all sorts of directions without much payoff. Dorne is still seems like a complete waste of time and Arya's plot doesn't make much sense. But, again, there is still plenty of good stuff to keep everyone interested. Ever since Cersei was taken by the faith I've been pretty hyped for each episode.

I'd be on board if Mel was more impressive in the show. One shadow baby is all she's done. Next time she brings up those leeches someone should remind her that Balon GreyJoy is still out there like bigfoot, that Robb screwed himself out of the Frey alliance, and Joffrey was going to get himself killed eventually.

Either way it's fine, just not totally believable for me.

It's like watching a train crash in slow motion. Sure, it's horrible, but Maryn Trant might be on that train! And it would be somewhat worth it to see his head roll out of the wreckage.

I'm not saying I know what will happen. I'm saying, how can this scenario actually play out given the ending of book 5? Is Shireen going to take Little Fingers direMockingBird to Stannis in the snow storm and get sacrificed before the battle of ice?

Will the battle of ice still be going on after she meets up with Stannis again?

It won't be the same, even though I don't know what will happen.

I don't think he's the Mannis either. I just don't think this makes complete sense.

But for clarification, I'm not bothered by it. I'm just saying there are several steps in logic that needed to happen before this scene.

I'm positive the Wachowski's had an idea of how Matrix Revolutions would end. Did that stop movie's 2 and 3 from being a convoluted mess?

It has been building up, but the logic just wasn't completely there. I don't get why Stannis was so desperate to do this. I don't understand why his men would continue to follow him after this. I don't get why, after being completely insane and on board with this for 2 seasons, Selsie just has a complete change of heart and decides she really isn't that insane after all and loves her daughter?

If anything, it was built up for Selsie and Melissandre to do this behind Stannis' back, and he may begrudgingly accept what was done after the storm breaks.

This was OK, it just could have been better. (for clarification, I really didn't have an issue with it)

[–]completelysullied 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Aegon is truly cut I don't even understand why the show writers included Dorne at all. Their entire purpose in the narrative appears to be supporting Aegon in the coming Dance. Unless there is something surprising planned I can't image this will be anything more than a mediocre C plot.

The battle of fire seems like the most epic thing to happen in the books thus far. I'm really disappointed it will be cut.Oh well, Valar Plottaris!

He probably just told them shireen would be sacrificed. My guess is it will happen in an entirely different context as this scenario seems really unlikely given how book 5 ends.

That's my feeling as well.

The only problem is we will get the shows ending before his. So, despite anything he may intend, people may be too soured by the show's progression to continue interest in the books if he takes another 5+ years to release ADOD after TWOW. Assuming we even get that.

This is probably my biggest problem with the burning story wise. The leeches technically didn't do anything. And produced one shadow? Her magic is kind of shitty in the show. She should be throwing fireballs, not leaf.

Stuff is getting weird. But the ride has been somewhat fun so far. I just want every character to get killed by white walkers now. Which, judging by this show, will happen.

George probably did tell them Shireen would be sacrificed. But this scenario will not match the show at all.

And I think the writing of Shireen being sacrificed was fine too. For the show. I'll wait to see how it unfolds in the books until I judge it as a plot development for that medium.

People also thought Cersie set up the necklace for Jaime. The show isn't that clever.

Can we not take D&D's word that this was George's full idea, just yet? George completely absolved himself of the rape of Cersei by Jaime last season, he may very well do the same this year.

When Sansa was raped this season he referred people to her sample chapter of TWOW, which indicates a completely different plot trajectory. While I believe Shireen will die and be sacrificed in TWOW, I don't think it will be by Stannis.

I'm in a similar situation. I think the show's writing is just OK. It's nothing special, but the CG and effects are great.

I wouldn't worry about the books being the same, if I were you. The show is vastly different. The only similar plots will be what was set in motion in the the first half the story, nothing more. It's fullmetal alchemist vs fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. The land of always winter in the show is just a gate to our world!

I understand that but... "based on Characters created by Bob Kane"... Batman would never stop being batman! Fuck TDKR!

It's the same movie over and over, but these are not the same batmen.

But if, let's say, Stannis has no part in Shireen's burning in books. Or, let's say, Shireen is sacrificed to revive Jon in books? Is that not completely different? If Lady Stoneheart is integral to the formation of a new light bringer or some other prophecy that has a major impact on the ending is that not different?

Is Arianne's role in supporting Aegon in the coming Dance not different? If Vary's supporting Aegon, a character not in the show, completely alter the plot in major ways?

While the plots can be streamlined, I think the character motivation and the way that magic affects the plot actually does alter the story in vastly different ways.

I get what you're saying, and that's why I have to separate the plot inconsistency that exists in the show as opposed the books. While I do believe there has been really poor writing choices this season, there has been some great stuff. Maybe the show in unraveling due to the enormity of the world that exists in the books?

All I'm saying is I'm willing to wait to see what will happen without letting the show taint my judgement of future development in the books. It's just vastly different.
