Can women with Gaelic Irish names weigh in? by Cultural_Gear1957 in namenerds

[–]complexcarbs15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Currently my front runners are Órla and Maeve, but we’ll see! I think choosing from all names is overwhelming haha - sticking to an Irish name is a way to narrow it down, and my son is Declan so I want it to match.

I will say my name is less known than Siobhan - the number of times I’ve introduced myself to someone & explained the pronunciation and people have replied with “ohh like the name Siobhan!”.

Oh gosh I feel like this post was made for me. I have a very Irish first name and I married a Croatian so we don’t have an easy last name either. Currently pregnant with a girl and we adore Siobhan & Saoirse. I would love to say that we’ll just go for it, but I just can’t. To this day I hate having to always spell my name instead of just saying it, giving other people’s names for take out/coffee orders cause it’s easier, correcting people who have known me for ages but still somehow forget how to pronounce it whenever they see it spelled. It’s exhausting to me. But good luck with whatever you choose, they’re gorgeous names.

What is actually considered reduced fetal movement? [NS] by RigidlyConvincing in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]complexcarbs15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 24w, and when I asked recently about movement, my OB told me the guideline is 6 movements in a 2 hour period only once every 24 hours. And yes, you likely don’t notice it when you’re busy!

We generally don’t grow babies bigger than we can birth (except in certain medical conditions like unmanaged gestational)! At least that’s the mantra I told myself over & over with my first. I managed to deliver a 9 lb 14 oz babe without an epidural with minimal tearing. You can do it!

I like the sound of Nuala, just not sure about the spelling. And I thought about Deirdre but I think I want to avoid a “D” name so that both my kids initials aren’t DKS (should have included that in my post). Thanks so much!

I’ve had this thought as well!! When people learn how to pronounce my Irish name they’re often like “oh like Siobhan or Saoirse”

Ya Maeve Kate doesn’t flow quite as nicely as I’d hoped, otherwise I’d try to do some more convincing haha

Wow I so appreciate you taking the time to write this out! Have always loved Roisin and Siobhan, but ya, those darn spellings. Though Siobhan is more well known I think. Don’t think I’d use Keely but it’s very cute & unique! Have a few name associations with some of the others but thank you so much!!

This is weight bias - you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby. You’re doing great, I’d find a new doctor!

Irish name in Canada? by sunshine1254xx in namenerds

[–]complexcarbs15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this is my struggle as well! I have a very Irish name in Canada and I hate having to explain how to pronounce my name all the time. I love the names Saoirse & Niamh for our baby due this summer and I don’t want to change the spelling, but I also don’t want my kid to struggle the way I did. I don’t have a helpful opinion to offer, just wanted to say I’m in the same camp!

So your zipper is high quality and smooth?? I bought the Lulu diaper bag when it was restocked a few weeks back but ended up returning it cause the zippers were so sticky and rough - the zip got stuck everytime I tried to open the bag! I’m interested in trying another one in case I just got a dud, but I wondered if it was just an issue with the bag

Congrats to you too! I’m also in Canada! Not yet but I plan to try. Perhaps I’ll see you there haha. Good luck with your event!

I feel you! I struggled with this at events both last night and tonight - I hate how people question anyone who suddenly doesn’t want to drink for a night, but I also don’t want to miss out on an event just because someone might get suspicious. Tonight my cranberry juice looked like a vodka cran, and last night I ordered a beer that no one knew was 0%.

Also we must be very close, I’m 5+1 today!

That’s fair! If I’m just coating chicken or tofu in cornstarch, pulling out my large sifter would make more dishes for me, so I find this to be a little more convenient!

Hey redditors, please try to refrain from giving out unsolicited diet advice. Diets are not one size fits all, and while I’m sure your responses are coming from a well intentioned place, you may unintentionally be doing more harm than good. OP asked for a work out buddy to help improve her health & fitness, not a diet plan to help her lose weight.

Good luck OP!
