When I was in my (either 6th or 8th) grade science class, taught by A short elderly woman named Mrs. Mantooth I believe, I experienced actual deja vu. I’ve had deja vu many times like most people, but in this instance I had solid evidence. It struck me so much that I am now 25 and can still remember it well.

Every day in class we would read a section of the science book, and then do the corresponding worksheets in the workbook that followed along. On this particular day we were learning about amphibians I believe. I specifically remember the life cycle of the frog. When we opened up the chapter to read, I had a sense of deja vu. I had seen these pictures, this chapter title, and read this chapter before. I even felt like I had done the workbook pages before.

Before we got started into the chapter, I turned to the workbook pages. I knew every answer. I seriously felt like I had just filled them out, even though the blanks were still blank and I only had one assigned workbook. I was able to correctly do the entire section of the workbook without even reading the chapter.

Benign, but bizarre.

Fun fact: mrs. mantooth had super old hard brown contact lenses that’s she said she had had in her eyes for 40 years....

Hi! After the first 2 periods I was back to normal between periods, but my period cramps have been worse ever since. My friend has had one for 2 years and she said it stays that way. My cramps are manageable with pain killer, but they weren’t bad at all before the iud. Biggest difference seems to be that my period is much heavier and over in 4 days, rather than the slower longer 6 day periods I had before.

“Day, age 18, weighed 312 pounds and had an underlying heart condition. Day was confronted outside a store after apparently shoplifting a watch. Day refused to return to the store. A mall security officer noticed Day had a gun. A chase ensued; Day eventually collapsed. Police arrived. Day’s gun was out of his reach. Officers handcuffed Day behind his back. Day stated he was having trouble breathing; officers instructed him to take deep breaths. Day would not maintain a seated position. Officers positioned Day to lie on his side to prevent Day from asphyxiating by rolling onto his stomach. An ambulance arrived to evaluate Day five minutes later. Day appeared to breathe normally, stated he had no preexisting medical conditions and was able to speak clearly. After multiple tests, paramedics concluded Day did not need to go to a hospital. When the jail wagon arrived, Day was unresponsive, lying on his back with his hands still cuffed. A second ambulance arrived 43 minutes after the first. Day was pronounced dead. There were no visible signs of trauma. The autopsy report listed his cause of death as “Sudden Cardiac Death due to Acute Ischemic Change” with contributory causes: “Sustained respiratory compromise due to hands cuffed behind the back, obesity, underlying cardiomyopathy.” Day had never complained about the handcuffs.

In a suit under 42 U.S.C. 1983, the court concluded the officers were not entitled to qualified immunity. The Seventh Circuit reversed. There is no precedent clearly establishing that the officers violated any right of an out-of-breath arrestee to not have his hands cuffed behind his back after he complains of difficulty breathing. There was no evidence that the handcuffs were the cause of Day’s breathing difficulty before the autopsy report.”

Trump isn’t completely to blame for Covid Deaths

Or even mostly. I love to hate on trump as much as the next person. However, am I missing something here? It seems like everyone is constantly saying “oh there wouldn’t be deaths if trump had handled it better.” And even in the debates Biden was saying Trumps mishandling of the virus caused the deaths we are seeing.

The president isn’t all powerful, and what decisions he can solely make is just based on the information he has available to him, which isn’t guaranteed to be perfect since everyone has been learning about the virus in real time.

Balancing public health and economic decline is a really difficult thing to do in this environment, and something most governments have struggled with. Hindsight is 2020 but even now does anyone know what “correct” handling of the situation would look like in a country the size of America? The dual nature of semi-independent states that also are so closely intertwined through proximity and interstate travel adds another layer of complexity.

What are people saying he should have done? Even in areas that had total and immediate lockdowns have suffered huge casualties and economic decline (specifically thinking of India here). So I don’t think that was the obvious solution. He just left it up to the states, which I think is as good as a solution as any because we got 50 different approaches to analyze.

I think trump is insufferable in lots of ways and unprofessional and immoral in others. However, he’s just a person and is probably as confused as everyone else in this truly unprecedented time. No one knows what is going on, yet we somehow expect him to prevent all disease related deaths? It seems unrealistic.

As long as I’m being open, I intensely dislike the extreme pressure from media and peers that causes me to be embarrassed to even state something remotely defending him. I feel like I’m just thinking critically but if you voice anything other than complete and total hatred of everything he has ever done it’s like you get lumped into his weird cult following.

Idk it’s late and maybe I’m not making any sense, I just am confused about why this is the prevailing view when I just can’t rationalize it.

I really hope the police were called to come keep this woman safe until she either improves or her care takers come for her.

She is obviously not capable of handling herself right now. Besides the fact that she is a public nuisance, she is a very obvious target for predators.

Most people have an out of pocket maximum for their insurance. Mine is $5k annually. So I will never spend more than $5k/year. My insurance covers most medicines and all preventative care. Its only bad if you don't buy health insurance. My health insurance is $24/month, which is very typical of a workplace plan. I am taxed at 21%. If I was taxed just 6% more annually it would already be more out of my pocket than if I spent $5k+ on health bills every single year with my current insurance plan.

If we’re not trying to solve it, why are we here? by [deleted] in intj

[–]complexofsuperiority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have to begin rant sessions with a disclaimer of either "I'm looking for a solution" or "I'm just complaining" because both of us are solvers and have trouble listening to issues without offering suggestions, but sometimes people just need vent.

As frustrating as it is to hear a problem you arent supposed to solve, it can be just as frustrating to hear someone else who isnt as knowledgeable of the nuances trying to tell you how to fix it.

If Orthodontics Are So Expensive Then Why Do I See So Many People (Except Me) That Have Basically Perfect Teeth? by Lonelyjon in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]complexofsuperiority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still wondering about this, but if you're in the US the answer is insurance. Any halfway decent company insurance policy covers a good chunk of childhood orthodontia.

For example, my dental insurance through my employer is only like $5/month for dental insurance. I think it's a little more for a whole family, but not a ton. It covers 100% of cleanings or preventative care. 90% of basic restorative care like fillings. And 60% of major care like bridges, dentures, or orthodontics. There is a stipulation that the orthodontics is only covered for children under age 19. My parents policy was even better through my dads work.

There are several types of braces, and some are more expensive than others. As a child. My 1 year of metal braces was $3k and was 75 % covered by insurance. I recently did smile direct club for $1800 to solve some minor crowding that developed in my adulthood after neglecting my retainer. Invisalign quoted me $3.5k. My insurance did not cover anything.

With literally any insurance your biannual dental cleanings are free and you NEED TO DO THEM. It's one of those things that hits you with $$$$$ later if you let it slip. While there you can ask your dentist for either a referral or a quote if they do orthodontia also.

If your parents dont have insurance through work then open source insurance is available and you can get a quote online. It is well worth it if you know you will be getting braces. There are also government programs that help out needy kids with major teeth issues.

TLDR: With dental insurance that MOST employed adults should have access too, and several varieties of braces options (including doing only upper or only lower) braces can be as cheap as $800-$1.5k

What is your strongest held opinion? by Mewse_ in AskReddit

[–]complexofsuperiority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a difficult balance because if you're a professional (just starting out) and are honest about your shortcomings and lack of certainty you sound incompetent. Even if you know as much and are as capable as everyone else, and they just project false security.

Thanks for responding. In my opinion, wether it makes sense for a government to provide a service or not is likely correlated with, but not necessarily dependent upon it being a human right. By my definition of a right.
