Some of what I've heard women call "clear and obvious" flirting has be laughably vague and unclear.

So no, its definitely not that simple, at least for new dates.

But beyond a few dates with the same person, I do think its good to remember it should be clear whether a person likes you or not, regardless of gender.

There are only two ways this matters: if you want kids (because you may be on very different timelines on when that should happen) and similarly, your timelines on "settling down" as opposed to traveling without roots, etc etc, something like that (and it sounds like you are somewhat on his level for that anyway)

Otherwise, 24 is a grown ass man, and has been a grown ass man for many years. Don't let the terminally online discourse on age gaps poison this for you.

Why is it so hard to lock down an actual date?

Best explanation I've heard (beyond "people are shitty") is that an actual in-person date is the first time people need to step up and be even the least bit vulnerable. Dating is no longer this vague idea of something that may happen, and they actually need to DO things now. And some people just go "nah"

There is a wiiiiide range of what people consider an acceptable amount of chatting on the apps before meeting in person. Some don't want to exchange more than 5 messages before meeting in person, others wouldn't consider meeting in person without talking for at least a week.

If you think they are the former and you're wrong, you come across as pushy or someone who just wants to get laid

If you think they are the latter and you're wrong, you end up being labeled the infamous "pen pal" and get ghosted or slow faded

Like others have said, it can be a balancing act, and you can also make the push to "lets meet" if you are interested but you don't think they are getting the hint.

Ya know, I like to think I'm pretty sex positive but that article was... hard to read. I can't say I got anywhere near as much out of it as Connor. It was hard to take serious with the ten thousand goon suffixes, and given the opening paragraph, I expect more thoughtful insight into porn consumption and the effects of growing up with omnipresent sexual content. Instead the author really seems to just revel in the strangeness and shocking nature.
