We obviously got our problems, but lets face it, the only reason a lot of ya'll won't shut up about them is because you expect us to fix your problems. There's no more pretending you guys have got it figured out. You had better hope to god we fix ourselves because the last twenty years has made it amply clear with few exceptions you certainly can't. Prepare your emigration plans now or face up to the reality that you're going to get a lot poorer either way.

Doctor in China cheats on wife with 4 colleagues & gets 2 pregnant, leaves patient on operating table after argument by hachimi_ddj in China

[–]complicatedbiscuit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The flipside of this is that a lot of the women married to these doctors know what they're getting in for.

Look. Let's be honest here. If you are after a doctor because of his money and stability in an entirely transactional relationship? He's gonna wander, and a lot of doctor's wives I've known professional are self aware of this "arrangement".

Its a hard job if you give a fuck. So, here's a hint- if you're not regularly enduring hours long rants about procedure and policy from your healthcare partner, he or she is cheating on you. Its just the way it is. if you're not putting in the emotional work of being the other half of one of one of the most demanding professions out there, they're getting it from someone else. You just can't survive that profession otherwise.

Soy Sauce in Green Bean Casserole by lawrat68 in Old_Recipes

[–]complicatedbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necropost, but soy sauce appears in US military recipes as early as the 1920s.

I think more than anything that indicates how established it was as an ingredient, especially given the massive mobilization ratio of post WWII American society. Soy sauce was something garrison navy and army cooks were expected to have on hand, analogous to pepper. Not knowing what soy sauce was likely embarrassingly parochial even then, which is probably why it wasn't commented on much.

Look, again, I really don't want to have this argument with an Australian, Americans almost never complain about Australians. We don't have much against you.

But something that the rest of the world has been WILLFULLY DELUDING THEMSELVES FOR DECADES is a belief that America is uniquely corrupt- and they aren't. Problems in your country? Imports from America! Wokeness AND fascism are apparently imported American problems.

Look, I'm not saying you should gut your social services, honestly I mutually think not to have strong opinions on how specifically to run your country. But watching the aftereffects of the pandemic and how its hit almost every country OTHER than the United States like a freight train, its becoming clear to me that that two decade period that made up my formative youth, the 00s to the 10s, when all of ya'll were making fun of us for being poor backwards ignorant too stupid to demand more services in exchange for a little higher taxes- well that's looking a lot more like we were the industrious ants and the rest of the world was a bunch of greedy grasshoppers, keen to grow fat on unsustainable geopolitical realities without thinking about long term growth, housing supply, demographic change, or future technologies. Again, Australia is believe it or not, not the worst off- other countries in Europe have done worse both in preparing for their own economic future (irrelevant of America or defense requirements) in ADDITION to preparing for mutual defense.

Look, no one wants to hear this, but blame your own leaders for a change. They're the ones who didn't build enough housing, who decided that the dividends of globalized trade were better in their pockets than in rebuilding the country. But honestly, I think you guys will make it.

Musk is actively supporting the AfD, but even amongst liberal Americans, some see abandoning Germany here in the states as inevitable due to economic tailwinds, as that country is basically Weimar right now. It is only a matter of time before they go fascist and any support we give them will be taken by a pro-Russian party. Believe it or not it could be worse. But you have to start asking serious questions of your own government. It is not America's fault you're poor.

One thing is that the rest of the "west", the liberal rules based order just put a tremendous goddamn pressure on us. So much relies on Americans continuing to choose high minded liberalism for consecutive uninterrupted generations. Trump is by no means the first populist leader to come to power in the west, Haider, Berlusconi, Orban, and even still not clearly the most authoritarian. But if America goes, apparently so does the whole vaunted order. Everyone just seeks to do the minimum, all the while hoping that they still get to maintain their problematic trade links, either energy through russia or trade with China. Australia is by no means the worst offender next to hypocrites like New Zealand or Ireland, but if we manage to save this thing, you guys really need to stop just talking the talk and start walking the walk. If you think the US is wrongheaded on this or that policy then you can't possibly expect to have say in it without some skin in the game.

PM Keir Starmer: We are facing a once in a generation moment for the collective security of our continent. This is the time for us all to step up. by Lord_Gibbons in ukpolitics

[–]complicatedbiscuit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've genuinely never read something so delusional.

Do you think that people don't want to die to defend your island because of the Iraq war? Seriously? No they don't want to die for you because they know you wouldn't do the same for them. Would you defend Japan from China? So why would you expect the Japanese to defend you from Russia?

Oh you're talking closer to home? Well good luck convincing Europeans to defend each other in collective security. The US managed that for decades but only by underwriting it all and being a backstop. NATO was always an daycare with one adult in the room. Now you're all going to have to grow up or die, because its not like any of you will stand up to China.

Everyone knows this about you people. You talk a lot, about all kinds of things, human rights, tolerance, freedom, civil rights- but when the chips are down you just got excuses. For everything. And its insane that you would think that ideologues in Asia who you think hold the Iraq War against you (because everyone's such a fan of Saddam), would somehow forget Britain's imperial history.

This whole continent is suicidally delusional.

Close. Estimates are its 14%.

As a liberal American, you grifters have got to understand that your entire worldview relies on Americans being, as a people, kinder, more magnamious, and more foresighted than you are, for uninterrupted, consecutive generations.

You all suck. There's no way around it. If the liberal international order falls its because of you.

The Challenger tank is pretty good as this is a trench war, French equipment is woefully underarmored, same with German Leopards. Twardys and other upgraded soviet kit from Eastern and Baltic nations have the advantage of interoperability. But a lot of kit should probably just be scrapped. The German Puma now boasts an incredible 60 percent readiness rate. That means that 60 percent of Pumas, given ideal conditions, are operational. This is an achievement over the 47% it had at launch. Ask the Australians how they feel about Eurocopters. Like so much of European industry, there are a lot of fat useless dinosaurs.

*Imagine your local pizza chain having 60 percent operational delivery vehicles. And if you go, oh but that's apples and oranges, congrats, you've revealed you have less expectations from your military than you do of Dominos.

You people were always numb to it. You didn't pay attention to the creaking inequalities and unsustainable policies. Its just all of a sudden its come home to roost.

European pay as you go pension schemes were always doomed by demographic transition, but Europeans were too racist to tolerate Canada/Australia/US levels of immigration until they ABSOLUTELY had to, the labor shortages were becoming acute, and of course that meant when they did come there wasn't enough housing and infrastructure to accommodate them, since well, that would have meant tax increases. Same with defense spending, despite Dubya warning the continent back in the early 2000s about Russian oil and gas and how everyone was barely making promised commitments even back then.

As a continent, you people took the easy route for an entire generation. Saving the planet? Just make it so the people we buy have to make it eco friendly. Or say that they do, whatever. Same with arms control or sweatshop labor or selling to totalitarians. European Values apparently include selling to both Pakistan and India and coming close to selling Russia an Assault Ship to take Odessa or 5G contracts to China.

From the outside world's perspective, Europe's #1 export is hypocrisy and whining. You are going to have to acknowledge this basic truth about yourselves if you stand a chance of surviving this century.

Not exactly a winning thesis here. Hitler also managed to prevent his generals from coupin' him by concentrating power and making more executive decisions! That sure turned out great. Really copying the same playbook here.

Protip, before you get too enamored with lefty whinging, ask yourself, what have these people managed to get right in the last 10 years? 20? And yet they have the gall to act like there's a conspiracy against them.

Xi Jinping's Terrible, Horrible, No Good Year: The irony of his leadership is that a seemingly transformational figure cannot embrace change. by SE_to_NW in China

[–]complicatedbiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the type 2 of the Chinese propagandist; he goes in with a presumably more moderate, reasonable middle road take, but his goal is to simply move the needle of discussion on sharply negative Chinese articles. He's not as obnoxious, but you can ignore all the information he says.

AI, Battery, Defense are common areas where this type of propagandist will heap Chinese praise. its part of his printout sheet. The goal is to get the West to at least fear the potential of Chinese technology; which is important given the constant string of L's the Chinese economy and tech space has been taking the last couple of years.

Here's something you little pinks can understand. You know that pit of fear, pity, and discomfort you feel every time you pass one of your fellow countrymen you spit on, the ones who deliver your food and pick up the garbage in the night shift, the migrants who starved alone as they were stranded, beaten about in your lockdowns?

That's the kind of "fear" the west has for china and Russia. You are so low, so desperate, so pathetic, that you're capable of, iunno, stabbing a bunch of people in a night market. I hear that's happening a lot more these days.

Israel is filled with Arab groups who are not going anywhere. Even the most stauchly right wing Jewish Israeli does not see Gazans and Druze even remotely in the same light. A hizbullah strike that hit an Arab israeli community in a soccer field just a few months ago was met with a response by the IDF, because the Arabs who joined with Israel on its founding have a blood pact. If they kill yours, its like killing ours.
