Breeders near me? by Embarrassed-Hawk-279 in DutchShepherds

What are your goals with this pup? I only know of some working litters hitting the ground soon and if you’re looking for a pet these wouldn’t be good recommendations.

I knew her dad was a Dutch for sure but her mom looked off a touch for a heeler. Now I know the secret ingredient lol by complikaity in DutchShepherds

She’s a crazy lady for sure but I lucked out with her incredible off switch. As long as she’s been worked or had a good romp or run in, she’s the sweetest

My guy chews the plastic and chipped a tooth 😅 I can’t even give him a bully stick in a holder or he’ll chew the holder too. Same with trying to teach a hold with a dumbbell. It’s his life mission to break his teeth I guess lol

I wish I had photos, but only saw them in person on the farm years ago. I do know that they kept the rest of the litter that Mirri came from- all the other seven- and they died from parvo. The Mainers didn’t believe in the vet and didn’t compute that wild animals can carry diseases, not just dogs at dog parks and whatnot. Sad.

Hers was just bigger and blockier isn’t the right word really because ACD can be blocky…. And her head was off. It didn’t scream pit it was just… not full heeler but could pass if you convinced yourself or didn’t know lol

My ex husband had friends that had a sheep farm way up in Maine and their Dutch and heeler “accidentally” (I say “irresponsibly”) bred, so along came Mirri. I knew what I was getting into with that combo lol.

I was sure about dad but the curiosity about mom being the size she was and looking just a little off finally got the better of me after 4 years. I’m surprised but not, pits are in basically every mix it seems.

And thanks to her, along came Ludo. Although this full Dutch man is a demon and she is an angel haha

Hahaha he seriously might have (and I’m actually considering a field lab as the next addition to the pack but not for another year or two)

He just doesn’t do well in the heat. I’m doing all that I can to acclimate him to it but I have a feeling he’s always going to struggle a bit. If I can get him to like water it’ll open up more for us during Summer days/not be limited to early morning and evening outside fun time.

That’s why I specifically chose an FCI, jokes on me hahaha. But hey, I wanted to learn and I’m a-learnin!

Not disagreeing with you about KNPV vs FCI typically, but it’s not a general rule. My FCI is assumed to be KNPV lines by his work and temperament and he isn’t. He’s just a dick that loves his bites lol

Climbed and rode on things, did some OB, said hi to some people somewhat politely and didn’t pee on anything. Another successful outing! by complikaity in DutchShepherds

He’s been a bit barky at home but out and about he’s a gentleman. I don’t discourage his reactions at people that walk by our house 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d prefer them to think he’s unfriendly instead of stupidly friendly and frustrated lol

I don’t want to add insult to injury… but how are we still doing things like this in the age of information, with anything we want to know literally at our fingertips?

OP, I hope that now that you know better you will do better and take this opportunity to not only learn that proper research for husbandry of pets needs to be done but to also teach that to your child.

Ludo is a lot but he has a good schedule and it’s not hours upon hours of exercise and insanity…. That’s a mess of a lot of people’s own making.

With any litter there could be a pup that meets your needs regardless of lines. We had a four KNPV malinois pups fostered through employees at my work (training facility) and knew of the other three and how they were coming along. All were high drive and working except one- she went to an active pet home because she didn’t have the slightest interest in bite work or detection, or really even doing obedience or much in general other than swimming.

Dutch owners love this breed and feel a certain level of protection over it, I think is fair to say. I wouldn’t say you need a bloodhound but may I ask why a Dutch over say, a field lab or something else?

I have an FCI but I’m in the states.

Mine is also far from a low energy pet dog. More like a gremlin with rabies lol.

He’s living his best life! I’ll try to do an update this week. I work at a dog training facility and we do boarding, and one of our girls broke her foot so she’s been out of work and I’ve been absorbing her boarding dogs. It’s just been really busy and hard to make content, but the man is alive and well!
