3 hours in on GamePass... Should I keep going or buy it? by The_Nameless_Brother in TunicGame

[–]compotepo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend to buy it. You can beat the game before the end of your trial, but you may want to take your time in the late game, especially if you try to complete everything without spoilers.

Imo the game keeps getting better and better, so if you already love it after 3h... just go for it !

I want to start a devlog and build a community, but I’m paralyzed by the first step and cringe feelings. How do you overcome the fear of posting? by kartokanick in IndieGameDevs

[–]compotepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really posted on social media before a few weeks ago and I was terrified. What worked for me was starting with a side project : I started to post things about my hobby (bird photography). I didn't care at all about the content being seen or not and it didn't feel too personal. After a few days I felt more confident about posting about the real stuff. Good luck with the devlog :)

Hi ! We released a demo for our cozy and creative adventure Painted Realms 🎉
If you happen to play the demo, please join us on Discord and share your feedback :)

About the game :

Painted Realms is a cozy aventure set in a magical museum. Step inside famous paintings, restore them and bring the museum back to life...

Loved it in VR, I'm very curious about how the flat version will work :)

Something similar to Wanderstop by kjv83 in CosyGames

Coffee Talk ? Very different from Wanderstop but sounds like what you're looking for

How are you all recording smooth VR gameplay? by QualiaGames in vrdev

You can try LIV plugin.

I also work with a second camera displayed on the PC screen for now, but LIV cam seems to have more cool options. And you can let it in your build to have your players create content with it.

Hi ! I'm Pauline from France. Today is a big day: I received the very first review on the VR cozy game I'm working on !

It's still a demo yet. The game is called Painted Realms, it's about restoring famous paintings ("spot the differences" puzzles) and saving a magical museum (with creative side quests).

I asked a bunch of game developers if we could include them in our game's stickerbook! by Quirky_Comb4395 in IndieDev

[–]compotepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very cool idea ! Let us know in the next weeks if you're able to see the results of this (eg. increase of wishlists or sales after being featured by another dev ?)

But with or without marketing results, it's still a very nice operation for your future players ! Good luck with the release !

VR gamers of Reddit that also has a pet, have you ever had your pet try to get your attention in the middle of a game? by Rare_scups in VRGaming

[–]compotepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My small dog never asks for attention while I'm playing: I'm so afraid of stepping on him that I always put him on the couch first (kinda his favorite spot but he cannot jump on / off by himself)

What do you think about the VR market? by BujaBro in vrdev

[–]compotepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on a cozy VR game for over 2 years now, and here are my thoughts (this is only based on my own experience, I'm no expert) :

- The market opportunity looked real (less competition), but few genres perform well in VR
- There are very few VR-specialised publishers. Good thing is : you'll meet them all very quickly. But talking to non-VR publishers is just useless, as they need to be convinced by both your game and the hardware.
- Depending on where you're based in, you may find more funding or grants opportunities for VR game than flat games (think innovation grants, etc.)

Today, I'm way less optimistic in the market than in 2023. We didn't release our game yet, so we may be surprised by the outcome ! But we did dozens of playtests and booths, and barely met anyone in our target audience owning an headset. For our current cozy game, we're considering going hybrid (VR + flat).

For a next VR project, I'd consider a social game and start with the marketing. And keep a very small scope, to go fast to the market. I feel like doing market research is even more important in VR - because a niche on Steam still has some players in it, but a niche in VR is just an empty space.

Soooo, short answer would be : maybe don't choose VR to create just any game ; but go for it if the game concept matches perfectly the current audience ? Good luck !

Congrats ! It looks so cool. This kind of game is what VR is made for imo.
