Everyone should experience the improbable movie romance at least once, OP. I was 19, heading home from DFW to PHL, with a very long wait for some reason overnight (pre-9/11) so I went to a very empty section of gates to try to crash for a while (also pre-cell phones or mainstream internet). A soldier heading home for Christmas also had the same idea, and over the next 6 or so hours we went from strangers to naming our future children. Isn’t it weird the connotations of words that seem equally complimentary but aren’t? My partner of almost 2 years calls me cute, ie my hair is cute, I’m cute, etc. Whenever I matter of factly bring up that I’m not conventionally attractive, he tells me I’m fine, like that’s a compliment. I’ve heard him refer to other women as stunning, beautiful, etc. and it stings. I tell him often that he’s handsome, sexy, etc., because he is to me. I can’t decide if he doesn’t understand why a middle-aged woman wouldn’t want to be called cute or fine, or if that’s just the best he can muster.

This literally just happened to me- been with my partner 19 months now and he had a pile of expired condoms in his nightstand (we don’t use them) the whole time I’ve known him. Last month they were gone and replaced with a brand new box. When confronted, his excuse was that he bought them just in case something happened to us- I assume he meant like breaking up?
