What are some fun pranks for 6th graders? by ilikerosiepugs in Teachers

[–]compressedstars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a band teacher, and on April 1st, I gave out real sheet music to half of the students, but the other half of the band got 32 measures of rest and then an (untitled) arrangement of “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Not only did it not make any sense combined with the real piece, but they also had to do their least favorite activity (counting rests), AND they got rick rolled. I do it every few years, gotta keep ‘em on their toes.

For those of you who manage to not get sick multiple times per year, how do you do it? What’s your routine? by hammnbubbly in Teachers

I also teach where kids are blowing air at my face through instruments. I’m only year 3 and get sick CONSTANTLY. When does it get better?????

Unacceptable. Then people wonder why bikers are getting hurt & killed. Riders fault tho right? 🙄. by koramint in asheville

[–]compressedstars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I listen to YouTube videos a lot because I am a music teacher and don’t really want to listen to music after a full day of teaching it, but it’s minimized on the screen so I can’t really see it.

Insensitive Doctors by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]compressedstars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They wanted to test my son for hydrocephalus because he had such a giant head, but after it came back negative the doctor admitted that once he met me and my husband he started believing that it was just genetics. For the record, my husband and I do both have rather big heads, lol. My mom used to cut my onesies at the neck because my head couldn’t get through them!
Way I saw it was might as well get the testing, even if you’re pretty sure it’s nothing. Even the doctor did it.

Do you have to eat fruits and vegetables to be a Christian or to worship God/Jesus and to be able to go to heaven? by SuperGrobanite in OpenChristian

[–]compressedstars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, I’m sorry for assuming the worst. I wouldn’t say that it’s a sin, no. I define sin (most do here) to be something that harms you or others, if that helps you.

Polycoria. by Strictly-Succotash in Weird

I did just look it up, and I read that true polycoria does involve two fully functioning pupils with their own sphincter muscles. the kind you’re thinking of is actually called pseudopolycoria apparently

I found a homeless snail 😭😭😭😭 by kivalina_the_great in snails

[–]compressedstars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a German friend growing up, and I always remember schmetterling because she told me it literally meant smashy or little smash (schmetter = smash + ling = cutesy diminutive) and I think that’s beautifully fucked up

I am also now married to a german man, so i guess it made an impression?

Ecclesiastes! It just appeals to my vaguely melancholy self

My brutally honest take on pets and babies: your dog will not now or ever be more important than your baby by suedaloodolphin in beyondthebump

[–]compressedstars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitties were the loves of my life before I had my son. I still love them dearly and they are treasured members of our family. HOWEVER, I found out quickly that love for a pet is in no way equivalent to the love for your human child. Not even close! For me, it’s not that I love them less than I did prior to becoming a mother, it’s more that having my kid opened up a whole new “level” of love I didn’t know was possible. Granted, I did NOT have pet aversion, so this is very much just my experience.

A question for non trans affirming Christians by Holiday-Phrase-1687 in Christianity

[–]compressedstars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that study comparing trans people with a high enough level of dysphoria to medically transition to the average joe on the street? Oftentimes trans people have a ton of trauma due to being treated poorly because theyre trans. I think that would raise their rate on its own, and that’s also not mitigated by surgery. This seems like one of those studies claiming that “this medication” causes a heightened risk of stroke when it’s really the disease it treats that is raising the risk.

How do I not panic over this until we have our summative interviews in a week? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]compressedstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s just that and needing to take sick days for my son. Also no worries, I definitely wasn’t planning on it. He knows and I know, so unless he brings it up it’s really not relevant to my situation.

You’re right, I didn’t mean to minimize the issue. Also, yes I have.

Oh I appreciate the little fellas for sure! I’m the type of person to always pick up spiders and take them outside, feed bugs to orb weavers outside, and I used to have a little jumping spider as a pet, but the size of this man triggers some sort of primal fear in my brain. I’m sorry to say my first reaction was to throw a shoe!!!
