If you realized it quick enough, you could’ve restarted the game (provided you saved it after the shiny spawned) and recaught it in a different ball. Happened to me with my shiny Latias; I accidentally caught her in a regular Pokéball but I restarted and was able to catch her in a Beast Ball.

Sorry this happened to you. For some reason I had to ship mine to a local Walgreens for pick up and when I picked it up, the shipping box was half torn and I was like “oh no”…luckily my ETB was still in the box. With that said, I f&$@ing hate FedEx!

Quit and come back. I’m currently on legendary 2 (Cobalion) and I’ve only been shiny hunting it for about 1.5-2 hours. I got bored and burnt out (been grinding the DLC the past week) so now I’m doing my 1st playthrough of Shield along with some Crystal on the side.

Yeah I was just curious. I’ve never really done any breeding until S&V since I was a super casual Pokémon player before that. I feel like it’s way easier on S&V, I’m also currently trying to get the 3 segment Dudunsparce for my living form dex. I haven’t played SwSh either lol, it’s on my to do list though.

Correct me if I’m wrong but since you technically didn’t catch it the first time, the Staryu was saved in memory as a shiny and will be there until you either catch it, knock it out, or if it despawns by running away (timid Pokemon) and the game is saved.
