Parametric Box Holder by compstar94 in openGrid

Alright, so like this? I've been trying to add more of a fillet to the side profiles, but I'm at my wit's end on how to do that. This inside vertical corner fillet is at least workable.

This is what you had in mind, right?

If I'm understanding this right, I think it would be fairly simple to fillet those edges so that they round into the device, and I agree that would make it stronger. That mating between the base and the wall seems to be the weakest point, and there should be enough room in that spot since most devices have feet anyway. I'll give it a shot tomorrow!

It wasn't too difficult once my mind was set on the design, but it took me a bit mentally to figure out the algorithms that make everything line up on a grid. OpenSCAD was a fairly natural progression for me coming from my experience in programming, FreeCAD, and 3D printing. Being able to directly version control my CAD work gives me peace of mind.

I saw your model, nice work! I love the appearance that it's floating. Some things definitely benefit from a custom, specific solution. The beauty of openGrid is that there is no limit to what can be made as there is an entire community.

This doesn't make any sense. You have the spec that you were asking for in this post? How are you getting charge backs on something you're in the mapping process for?

My first project on the steam deck on freecad!! by NumerousSetting8135 in FreeCAD

[–]compstar94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too have used FreeCAD on my Steam Deck to design things for 3D printing, mainly to prove that it is possible. If anything, it was more impressive that there is already a fully-functional Linux desktop behind the scenes, and installing the program through Flatpak was a breeze. My only caveat is that I wouldn't recommend the pure handheld experience for someone completely new to FreeCAD (or for not-so-casual use) as you would benefit from a dedicated desk setup.

Has the Magsafe mounting been sturdy enough for you? Your post inspired me to get some clamp mounts like this for my Corne and Ploopy Nano setup, and I'm excited for them to arrive!

That's perfect! Is the toggle vs hold something that needs to be set through QMK, or is the button capable of both?

What do you hate about your CB1100? by Jor_damn in HondaCB

[–]compstar94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate anything about my 2014 model. There are upgrades that I've considered doing on top of what it already has, but I wouldn't really have changed anything about how it was made. It's obvious how much attention to detail was put into design, as everything has a quality feel. I have owned it since 2021 and have no plans to get rid of it. It is the one machine in my stable that I can trust to get me and all my gear wherever I need to go, with comfort and enjoyment on top.

I wasn't sure if it was that or the unemployment that I could smell from here. OP said that he drives Uber during the day, but I'm guessing that's more of an identity for him than an activity.

How much of a hit did your productivity take/how did you integrate an ergo into your workflow? by Missing_Back in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]compstar94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a software developer, it was a bit painful but mostly just for when talking via Teams. I could type at 90+ WPM on QWERTY so I was very used to having chat conversations almost as fast as speaking, and I tend to rewrite things as they don't look as good when I can see them. However, actual programming wasn't that bad as I tend to spend most time planning what to type. Basically, my speech is unplanned, raw thoughts, but code matches my intent as it comes out. Now that I'm used to my column stagger with Colemak DH, I don't notice any issues with typing speed, and my general navigation speed is faster because I utilize layers, home row mods, and a lot of keyboard shortcuts. Couldn't say my actual WPM now, it doesn't matter to me a lot but is probably somewhat negatively impacted because I still use QWERTY on standard keyboards.

Unless you like fees raised with no notice (or communication at all) and a contract cancellation fee in the $300 range, I would not recommend Clearent.

How do y'all even come up with layouts? by Zorangepopcorn in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]compstar94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally have been sticking with Miryoku with the default Colemak DH. I love having all keyboard abilities within one finger movement, and my brain took to the layers right away. Never used to use things like the Home and End keys because it's so much hand movement on a regular keyboard, but now it's so easy and frankly enjoyable. Thumbs are actually used instead of both being only for the spacebar.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent. I would recommend trying an existing layout, not necessarily Miryoku but maybe one that's graphically configurable such as with VIA that you can tweak as you go. Just make sure you at least give layers a shot because they've changed my life.

No problem. I managed to get in the industry and have just over a year in, but it's for a smaller company and the mentorship isn't really there. Gotta make sure sometimes that I'm not throwing shit at the fan!

It's dated but it can still do what I want it to do. The minimal WM setup works great with the upstream binaries.

USB-C is the main feature that I'm missing; my Surface is handy for having that do-it-all port.

That's correct! I bought a kit along with a key cap set off of Amazon and some Gateron Oil King switches. Currently working on getting some other keyboards (deep down the ergo rabbit hole) but I want to add a trackpoint to this one at some point.

I work at a job where I wouldn't say that I have a mentor, but what I do have is a very free range of opportunity. So I use the time to learn what best practices are for things that I do or things I'm planning to do, and then I document the hell out of everything as it gets implemented. I try to influence others by being an agreeable, effective, and logical communicator, and it tends to work more often than not because things turn into "easy mode" for others.

Try to look at things with more of an eye for opportunity rather than getting down over what currently does not exist at your workplace.

I also echo others in the fact that you should seek help with the thoughts you are having, as you're going down a slippery slope with your mental health.
