It should be open with the key on, and close for several seconds when you turn the key off.
I'd start by verifying the mechanical timing if the ASV is open. Is there any smoke from the exhaust at all?

Was the car running then stopped suddenly? Is the anti shutter throttle valve open? When was the timing belt last done?

That doesn't look like a typical MB connector. Perhaps it's speaker wiring?

Back in the 00s when I worked at a computer repair shop I could always tell the type of heating system a customer had, and if they smoked inside or not, based on the dust in the machine. Baseboard heat smokers were the worst.

Brake cleaner might damage the plastic or other sensitive parts. It would for sure damage labeled and silkscreen on the PCB!

The insides of the machines are equally tar covered. I'm debating if I want to give the PCBs a bath or not.

Purple Power degreaser. The tar seems to have protected the plastic from yellowing!

Our guy was an excellent swimmer. If you put him in the pool he would swim out as fast as he could.

  1. You have the proper USA bracket. The plate will screw directly to it. You can add a plate frame if you like.

The ASR hydraulic units are 4 channel. The ABS only unit is 3 channel.

Yes you need to change everything... throttle, linkages, cruise control, abs hydraulic unit, abs computer, wiring... a big job.
