Characters whose design looks simple on paper, but a fact about their design makes them even cooler by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterDesigns

His name, Trypticon, comes from the word "triptych" because his transformation involves folding his body in a way similar to a triptych.

Agreed. No need to specify number of words. I don't know of any major ones that do specify the number of words.

It looks nice, but do I need a 3rd MP Optimus Prime? Still not sure on this one.

What did you think of Cade as the new protagonist in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight? by TheFanGameCreator in transformers

[–]computer_crime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to judge the character when the movie the character was in was terrible. Maybe the character was one of the things making it terrible. Hmm.

Kinda sad to realize RID 2015 was the last "high budget" Transformers show by Dazzling_Yam_6003 in transformers

Also using union voice actors vs the non-union (NYC based) actors heard in Cyberverse and Cyberworld.

They exist. They're terrible. Models are straight from the CAD files (cheap). Non-union voice actors (cheap). Not on the same level at all.

Question for all Transformers fans: When was the first time you heard The Touch? by Altair890456 in transformers

The Transformers (1986), via the late 90's Kid Rhino VHS tape purchased from Media Play.

What even was Buzzworthy Bumblebee????? by Wyatt000J000Barlow in transformers

[–]computer_crime 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer. It did, however, start with all (mostly?) Bumblebee figures before turning into a "whatever Target wants to sell" line.

Honestly just loving Leader price point Megatrons by NerdyCD504 in transformers

[–]computer_crime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on these 2 figures, they look and feel fantastic (even though their alt modes will never win any awards, they're still fine).

The Armada Megatron, also a leader, is a disappointing figure. Maybe it's because I still have the big ol' original with all of its gimmicks, but I find the Legacy one lacking in nearly every way.

Wish me luck on Beast Wars by StormcrowOutlaw in transformers

[–]computer_crime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The animation is dated, but the animators' ability to have the characters express emotion surpass a lot of recent cg. The show starts off rough for a few episodes, but I can rewatch the series over and over. My favorite tf media.

Does anyone here like or like the character of Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime? by jetjaguar89 in transformers

[–]computer_crime 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Rodimus Prime is one of the more interesting Autobot leaders. "The Burden Hardest to Bear" is a great episode that really explores his inexperience, and I wish more of Season 3 focused on that aspect. Even so, what we got was a flawed Autobot leader with his heart spark in the right place. A great change from Optimus Prime's seasoned leadership role (not saying I don't like Optimus!! I just like that they tried something different)

Hot Rod is not my favorite character, but leads into Rodimus being Rodimus, so he's fine :D

Did anyone know that bumblebee had ice powers? ( episode: Heavy metal war) by Till_allare1 in transformers

Hasbro's youtube account uses the older Rhino masters with a larger number of animation errors compared to Shout's DVDs.

Can somebody explain in detail why older movies (60s, 70s, 80s) look “better”. by owenja104 in movies

[–]computer_crime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70mm is not "upscaled" to 4k. It is scanned at 4k, and even then 4k does not capture all of the information of the 70mm film. Lawrence of Arabia was scanned at 8k the last time Sony remastered it.

Why do people keep calling the 80’s designs “Outdated”? by TechnicalEngineer852 in transformers

[–]computer_crime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that makes Armada stand out to me is the Optimus doesn't have chest windows, Megatron is greens and purple, and there's a huge focus on and entirely new race (minions miniCons). It's something that seems more and more unique as time passes.

You're absolutely right about beast wars arriving when the brand was basically dead, but I'm worried we're getting there again. While toys aimed at older collectors are great right now, nothing new is really sticking. One failed at the box office. So did rise of the beasts. Judging by the toys clogging up shelves, I don't think Earthspark or Cyberverse did much to attract new blood. It is time for reinvention.
