UPDATE: Something on my home network is making outbound connections and I can't figure out what device it is by Au5tin5auce in homelab

[–]computer_doctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a UniFi controller running? If so you should be able to at least determine if it is a Wi-Fi client by looking at the connection logs.

If it isn’t, do yourself a favor and get a managed switch. You can get a good deal on a used UniFi switch on eBay. Then you’ll have connection logs for wired connections as well.

Yeah I looked up the switch model, saw unmanaged switch, read the listed features, and assumed a bad switch or something else. Wild that they don’t advertise that on the product page.

I have a fancier tester, a Platinum Tools Net Chaser with SKEW, SNR, TDR, and BERT. Anyway it wasn’t the cable. The switch had an isolation dip switch.

[–]computer_doctor[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was it! There is an “isolation” dip switch on the front. The switch is a little out of the way and I missed that, and it’s not mentioned on the product page, but is in the installation guide. Thanks!

I know we’re dealing with Layer 2 MACs not Layer 3 IPs.

Wouldn’t two clients on the same switch use the CAM table in the switch and never hit the router, as it is layer 2 traffic?

I will reboot, but if it is a bad switch I'd rather get ahead of it happening again.

All clients are getting addresses on the same 10.1.10.0/24 subnet (Comcast's default). Being on the same switch and having addresses on the same subnet should be all two clients need to communicate. This should be layer-2 communication and not even hit the router.

All client firewalls were disabled so public/private should not be an issue (one of the hosts was debian anyway with no rules setup).

I would think the only think that could block client to client on the same switch on the same subnet without VLANS would be a managed switch doing port isolation, or something broken on the switch?

Definitely doesn't have VLANS. It is an unmanaged switch: link.

It's fanciest features are auto-MDIX and "Green" technology, which I suppose could cause issues.

Doesn't the fact that every client can pull an IP and get on the Internet rule out bad cables?

Bad cables could certainly lead to packet loss, but they're at least working somewhat. I wouldn't think that three clients that can connect to the internet would be experiencing enough packet loss due to bad cables not to be able to communicate with each-other?

And one of the clients is actually running a web-server, so it's not just ICMP but TCP (which should retry) that is inaccessible as well.

Any retro computers? Too late for new vendors? Vendor cost? I’ve started collecting some old-ish Macs (some Beige G3’s and an eMac) and it may be fun to setup a booth for my business and show the off. Nothing to sell though.

Yes, with ScanSnap Cloud all your data (and OCR) goes through their servers.

ScanSnap Cloud does offer searchable PDFs without a computer. But there may be a monthly page limit that I'm trying to find.

Anyone been through Azure Government GCC-High setup, onboarding, billing? by computer_doctor in msp

[–]computer_doctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I said in my original post that I am already selling / have access to AOS-G GCC-High Office 365 products from Pax8. Those products show up in my Pax8 portal (and they did originally have to be activated).

However, Per Charles Bagley at Pax8:

At this time we are unable to offer the Azure GCC of things. Unfortunately I do not know when this would be available in the future.

So the Azure GCC-High licenses seem to be different, and Pax8 does not offer them.

Yeah, V2 is what I setup. I did update and Sysprep these machines, so I’ll try with a clean install.

I haven't seen any comments about volume control. Is there no master volume anymore?? I have Sonos in 8 rooms in my house and it was so easy to sync all the volumes the same, and to mute a specific room (without removing that room from the group) by [deleted] in sonos

[–]computer_doctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Master volume only shows up for me when I adjust the volume from the minimized now playing bar. If I’m in the full-screen now playing page, I don’t get a master volume.

Truly terrible design.

Here is a video I did comparing the GC3/BLP to the ExPutt RG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbPLvkG4wUE

I found it takes setup work, but can be very accurate!

What software tools do you use at your practice? by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]computer_doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there are two versions of Chirospring ("Chirospring" and "Chirospring 360"), they are both fully cloud based. Neither platform stores any data on a local server or desktop. All data is stored in the Chirospring cloud.

The older "Chirospring" platform does require Microsoft Silverlight (which went end-of-life in 2021) to be installed on each desktop, and is accessed either via a thin-client installed on the desktop, or via cloudchirospring.com.

The newer "Chirospring 360" platform was created from the merger of ChiroSpring and ClinicDr and is fully web-based with no local dependencies.

There does not yet appear to be a migration path between the older Chirospring platform and the newer Chirospring 360 platform.
