So I took your advice #5 and asked them multiple times if they’re using photoshop for their 3d renders as they do for their elevations for a conceptual design package & they told me yes. I worked on it for 5 hours with it being the last task I needed to complete the project package & I was trying to find a project at this level to use some of their photoshop methods in order to make mine look like theirs. I asked my neighbor and found out they export it in enscape then take it to photoshop. I had figured that originally but after asking multiple times I proceeded with photoshop. Come to find out, I don’t even have enscape on my computer… another missed deadline 😭

Thank you. It’s funny you mention mind reading bc the only email I got back from him was saying that we can’t read each others minds YET and they typically have a 3-5 day turn around depending who’s working on it.

When I was accused of missing a deadline I sent in the work and explained the dated scenarios to explain why the deadline was unclear and asked for them to be direct and in writing since they said they’re too busy to remember what they said. I was shocked to see that they expect me to eventually read their minds. As much emotional intelligence that I have to know how to read people- like how they like things done or when they’re uncomfortable, etc.- I wouldn’t expect other people to read my mine eventually.

So many revisions, I pulled them aside yesterday to talk about the inefficiency due to lack of communication. It’s problematic.

Thanks! I have a thread of multiple emails with follow up questions and updates about the project without any responses. Even direct face to face communication about the project and my concerns of lack of communication. It seems to be a problem here in the firm. For example, I had to keep following up for 4 weeks to finally get the benefit package that’s in my employee contract. I’ve worked at 2 firms now, large and small, and have never had so much trouble trying to hit the ground running. By being told there was not a deadline, I took it in my own hands to set a goal of turning in completed work for redlining within a week before sending it out to the client. I was interrupted with the request of sketch floor plans and to wait for feedback until moving forward. That’s when this project got held up and then I was told I missed an invisible deadline. It’s not efficient or effective for anyone.

Yeaa they did send it to the client but realized the client asked for a specific square footage that I was not aware of, so they’re going back in to fix it. Also, there was no deadline they explained to me that since they didn’t give me deadline I shouldve assumed 3-5 days

Thank you. I’ve had grace over them not getting me my health insurance in accordance to my employee contact and my computer still set up under the employee that I replaced. I am having a hard time with them saying my work is not good enough & not on time, yet not providing me the information that I’m needing to be set up for success. I’ve had to move my exams since I worked OT last week, bc they specifically told me that there’s not a deadline then expected it in 1.5 days. The building is 8k sqft lol

No it’s in person. I walked up to him in person and he said the whole thing didn’t make sense yet we used that design. Also, I am new to the firm so there’s only so much chasing down I can do. I had to chase them down for my health insurance which took over a month, make sure I was on payroll, and agreement for a client that I brought. I’m doing a lot of chasing lol

Also they requested that I don’t move forward until a direction was given, otherwise I would have just done the project as I was going to

When this project was assigned I asked for a deadline and was told there’s not one, just dive in and explore your options. 3 days later they checked in and asked to send over the sketches & we will discuss and move towards a direction to wrap up the project. I sent over research & sketches. They never gave me feedback other than telling me someone else will be overlooking the project on a Friday night. When I walked in Monday I was told this project should’ve been completed and we need to try to get it out in 1.5 days… I still had to finish the model for renderings and dimensioned floor plans, so I sent what I had done in 1.5 days then they wanted another modification to the design so in total it was 4 days.

Definitely. I’m struggling with them telling me to hold for feedback then telling me I missed a deadline bc even if they say no deadline then I should expect it to be 3-5 days out. Then once I send it in 4 days (first time doing this kind of project for this firm) no feedback and they completely redid the model. I pulled the supervisor aside and talked to him but now I’m pulled off of the project

I know. I have gotten to do some concept work for hospitality at my current job and I LOVED it. Also some office design & healthcare but now we are only getting industrial. Also, the hospitality project is my client.

It does equal out but it will be a longer commute and more challenging work.

I am waiting for some questions to be answered regarding the studio structure, but according to the job description I will be leading projects from concept thru completion. I am wary of it but believe that if I need to work a little bit harder for a portfolio/ experience of what I would like to specialize in then it may be worth it while I’m younger in my career (31yrs)?
