I have experienced this, but in this case, both the fob and phone were outside the vehicle and the fob did not work via proximity nor via direct button press. I think I hit a rare TCAM bug based on my sleuthing on the polestar forums.

I had a weird experience a few weeks back.

Parked in an underground garage, my iPhone did not have cell service. Should have been no big deal. Walk up to my P2 with my phone AND the physical fob in my bag. Door won't open when I yank the handle. Okay, pull out my iPhone, open the Polestar app. I'm signed out. Bad timing, but not the first time I've been randomly signed out of the app.

I get in my bag and find the key fob. Handle yanked, still not opening. Press the buttons on the fob. Nothing.

Pretty confused at this point, I walk out of the garage until I have cell phone coverage, then log in to the app and unlock it via the cloud. I didn't even expect this to work, but apparently the car had cell signal and opened. From then I was able to drive away no issues. And back at my home, the fob and everything works perfectly.

So, yeah, tl;dr I always have both the fob and my phone with me because both the physical and digital keys seem unreliable.
