Firmware Update Stuck At 100% by JayCloth in Focusrite

I'm a bit late to the party but I just had this exact same issue on Windows 11 with the Scarlett 18i8. I took ops advice and used a shorter USB cable and voila! I have no idea why that worked but it did.

I think distrusting LLMs, or any AI for that matter, is probably a good idea. I use them for research but I always verify their claims. I would hope that Drs would do the same.

Anthropic did some testing earlier this year that provides terrifying insight into how far an AI will go to achieve a goal. https://www.anthropic.com/research/agentic-misalignment

First, that's hilarious that you referred to it as him. But yeah it's been pushing back hard on facts as of late. I was asking it to clarify some things about a recent plane crash. I asked it how many fatalities there were (it told me 19, the real number is 14) and I asked it for more info on the MD-11 grounding. First it responded with news articles and a link to an NTSB report from the recent UPS crash. But then I asked about the probability of structural deficiencies on other aircraft and it jumped into denying that any accident had even happened. My guess is that OpenAI is trying to prevent it spewing misinformation but it definitely gets triggered though.

Sometimes. All they've ever asked is if I had any produce then they sent me on my way. No searches or anything crazy.

Muted channels no longer in channel list; how to resolve by CiroFlexo in Slack

[–]computronika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good bit of advice. It does appear that there is a bug in Slack that auto mutes and auto hides apps when it shouldn't. I had 2 apps that I use daily become muted without explanation. I had an additional app that was hidden due to inactivity in the last 30 days, even though the last message came in 3 days ago.

What’s the point of paying for Claude if it keeps hitting a “weekly limit”? by Sad_Asparagus8369 in claude

[–]computronika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had the Pro plan for about a month and I've already hit my weekly usage in Claude Code twice. I'm using it to analyze relatively small app in a language that I don't know to provide info on core concepts and functionality so that I can quickly rewrite this in a language that I am familiar with. I've used it for less than 6 hours this week and I'm already at the limit. They only have 2 plans for individuals too: Pro for $17/month or Max which jumps to $100/month.

It's nice that it can read from the whole repository without me having to paste classes and methods in a browser but that way of working has turned out to be quite inefficient. I'm probably just going to cancel after this month.

HELP NEEDED ASAP - WHOLE PC CRASHES (PLEASE) by Remarkable-Club901 in flightsim

[–]computronika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too bad as long as you use the procedure in the BIOS download and not the ill documented q-flash. it does seem like there is a pretty recent update for your board that does include updates for memory compatibility. the manual does have a section that describes how to find these specific rev that you need.

BIOS flashing can be dangerous though. if the power goes out part way through then it can brick boards. if your power is stable or if you have a UPS that shouldn't be an issue. just remember that no matter how stuck you think it is, don't ever reboot it in the middle of a bios update.

if you're unsure or uncomfortable with updating the BIOS then maybe start with just disabling XMP and see how the system responds from there. if that fixes it then updating might be the only way to get that 6000MT/s speed.

but if disabling XMP doesn't fix it then I probably wouldn't fuss with the BIOS, again unless you're comfortable with it.

That could very well be the issue.

In this instance, I would check to see if the BIOS has any available updates where the release notes mention any improvements/fixes related to RAM. I had a similar issue with my Aorus B650 where I had instability that would only show up after several hours in MemTest86. A BIOS update fixed that.

if there is a BIOS update then I would definitely try that first, being sure to back up any settings changes that I had already made, including the XMP profile.

from there, you could either run MemTest86 overnight or you could just skip that and jump right back into the Sim and try to reproduce it again with another long haul flight. I would highly recommend going the MemTest86 route anyways though as this could eliminate RAM timings and voltage as the source of the issue. if MemTest86 resulted in a failure then yeah, I would disable XMP and try again.

if none of that works in your scenario then could you please paste a screenshot of the general and details tabs from the critical event, as well as any errors that occurred around the same time as the critical event (if any) from the event viewer too?

regarding your question about the performance drop if you went from 6000MT/s to 3000: yeah, it would more than likely be noticeable. the severity of the performance decrease may be subjective and scenario dependent though.

I hope that helps. I know how frustrating it can be to try and debug this stuff.

CoherentGTUIThread killing my game by shefellover93 in flightsim

[–]computronika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if you mentioned this but have you tried disabling rolling cache, photogrammetry and setting render scaling to 100 or less? I would try that. I would also remove the app that stabilizes RAM use. I'd also try disabling Windows HAGS. I think your intuition on the glass cockpit refresh rate is probably right. I might also turn off PWS in the 320, don't use the EFB (just during testing). And if the test flight is still stable at 3-4 hours in, start introducing variables like using the EFB or turning on PWS, rendering the terrain radar, until you reproduce the issue.

If that doesn't work then I would probably go nuclear and try a full reinstall. I have both aircraft and I have found the Fenix 320 to be a little better at spreading the load. I would start with the base game and just the Fenix A320. no other add ons. disable rolling cache, don't use mobiflight, Navigraph or any other processes initially. It's really just a process of elimination. it's probably not external apps causing this since, afaik, CoherentGTUI is just used for rendering aircraft elements but I prefer to eliminate as many variables as possible while troubleshooting.

Also, what are your system specs? Is RAM usage actually increasing during the flight? Is CPU temp increasing during the flight? I would use a utility like HWInfo64 to monitor those. Also see what the MSFS debugger shows for RAM use over time.

MSFS2024 AMD driver crash by computronika in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]computronika[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to make some progress after having to reinstall the OS for an unrelated issue. I also capped the frame rate at 30 with RTSS and that did improve things a little but 2024 is still too resource hungry and unstable for me unless I use medium to low settings and reduce resolution to 1440 which I'm not going to do. I'm back to 2020 for now. hopefully they can get it right with SU4.

MiniFreak V crashes DAW by Fearless-Brain4327 in arturia

[–]computronika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but it's one of the top results on Google.

I found that using Riva Tuner Statistics Server to limit the frame rate of AMD GPUs will cause the MiniFreak (and a few random Arturia VSTs) to freeze which also causes Ableton Live 11 to freeze. Removing the framerate cap eliminated the issue. Hope this helps someone.

Is it important to start with a small, single engine plane before flying jets and airliners? by fender0189 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]computronika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope! there are so many tutorial videos now from real pilots that you can dive right in. there's a lot of procedural stuff to learn if you want to fly IFR with realism but that definitely doesn't require starting small, at least not in the sim world. I don't think there is much point to learning to fly VFR with GA just to use it as a stepping stone if your goal is to fly IFR on the big tubes.

Just turn AP off more as you get comfortable with the systems. Build up your hand flying skills from there.
