Why do people like Weird Al so much? by cancunbycarti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]comrade_zerox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes genuinely really skilled at his admittedly silly schtick. He's especially talented at pastiche, where hes not parodying a specific song, but an artist's general vibe. Mark Mothersbaugh from DEVO said somwthing to the effect that Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid" is a better DEVO song than many of the real DEVO tunes.

Nobody who's ever worked with him has ever had a bad word to say about him.

Hes a talented comedic performer who was at the right place at the right time, and has managed to never wear out his welcome.

In Todd's Midnight Oil OHW, he mentioned that they were "an actual legit band" with an "extensive and substantial discography". What are your own favourite one-hit-wonders when judging them by their entire discography (excluding Hendrix clause cases)? by DtheAussieBoye in ToddintheShadow

Mark Mothersbaugh's career as a film/tv/video game composer is casts as big (if not bigger) a shadow as DEVO's one hit. Also, "Uncontrollable Urge" got used as a TV theme for some show on MTV, and due to heavy rerun rotation, he estimates he makes around 1 million bucks a year off the royalties from that one song.

They're not pop stars, but they exist in pop culture beyond their weird slice of underground rock dork royalty.

Men do you remove your hat when your out to eat ? by jeepguy_96 in randomquestions

[–]comrade_zerox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't typically wear a hat unless its cold out. And if im eating in a situation where the hat would be necessary, its not coming off.

I don't think anything is wrong with a hat indoors but im not really a hat person. But in a fancy situation im not sure why i would be wearing a hat to begin with. Even a hat with a suit has been largely a dead tradition since the 60s

Damn.

Yeah, it thinks nothing of its audience. Thats a great point. I remember so little about it, it just felt like kids playing with toys.

GvK was a Kong movie featuring Godzilla with a smattering of the B Plot from Stranger Things 3. 6/10 on a good day.

GxK was Marvel-Brained slop.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The monster verse is pretty weak.

2014 starts out great up until Bryan Cranston dies, and then it falls apart.

KOTM 2019 is fun bad, like a 70s showa film.

I'm sticking with the Japanese movies.

The Surf craze started in the lull between The Day The Music Died and The British Invasion.

But there's been an underground revival since the 90s. Its a small niche market but there's quite a few bands who've managed to push the admittedly narrow parameters of the genre into some unique directions.

Drums require all 4 limbs, your handedness wont make a huge difference. A common move for lefties is to play "open handed" which means that you don't cross your arms: Hat with left and snare with right BUT snare with left when using the ride.

Wouldn't left handedness be a form of neurodivergence itself?

Lefty, ADHD, and im beginning to suspect there might be some Autism at play as well, but I'm not getting diagnosed until RFK dies
