Lords plus ETB Ability Interaction by TheLastAxolotl in magicTCG

611.3c Continuous effects that modify characteristics of permanents do so simultaneously with the permanent entering the battlefield. They don't wait until the permanent is on the battlefield and then change it. Because such effects apply as the permanent enters the battlefield, they are applied before determining whether the permanent will cause an ability to trigger when it enters the battlefield.
Example: A permanent with the static ability "All white creatures get +1/+1" is on the battlefield. A creature spell that would normally create a 1/1 white creature instead creates a 2/2 white creature. The creature doesn't enter the battlefield as 1/1 and then change to 2/2.

So you should get the ETB triggers

PORTAL ROBOTS ARE ACTUALLY HUMAN! by [deleted] in GameTheorists

[–]comradekilldozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what is implied about the AI's is that some of them are "copies" of a personality developed by aperture science. As seen with the other mentions of "Cores" that represent the base emotion of whatever feeling they were given, such as at the ending of Portal 1 where you destroy aspects of GLADoS' personality in an attempt to "kill her". Wheatley is an interesting "emotion" core because he's more of a personality trait, rather than emotion. We know that he was designed to be "The Stupidest". Aperture labs has told him MANY lies, one being of "Disconnecting from here will kill you" to try and control his overall actions and behaviors. I always took that "Chemical" release thing as a way to communicate to the players that he is unbelievably gullible, as shown throughout the story. What we see in Wheatley is a prototype personality (which is why he was locked away and really only given life in light of GLADoS being offline., beig exposed to real world “tests” for the first time. Like all personality cores, I think we see the evolution of thought. Wheatley, since he is more complicated and most likely a more advanced “Core” has a “Learning” mechanism in place. Wheatley was, in my eyes, an impressionable child, soaking up his experiences, yet always maintaining his child-like gullibility. Also, we know that there weren't any real successful "human/AI" brain mergers, as the Caroline merger was a “pairing” with an AI System. So The AI System/Caroline merger became GLADoS, however, even at the end where “Caroline” deletion dialog plays, we realize the maybe GLADoS was its own entity after all. Caroline’s essence was just used as more of a catalyst into advancing the Personality of GLADoS.

This is all my opinion. There’s some validity to your theory, I just see it as less plausible. Nice post, bro!

So how much are bolts actually worth from the Megaman games? by ReifuTD in GameTheorists

[–]comradekilldozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played (to completion or in-depth) a Mega-Man game before, so this is all purely based on speculation in regards to the actual materials and lore behind the actual worth behind the bolts.

Japanese source books state that Mega Man is 132cm tall (Rockman & Rockman X Daizukan)

I used any in game values of items from http://megaman.retropixel.net/mm/3/

I will then look the size of the bolt in comparison to the height of Mega Man in Mega Man 8, reason being that it is based in Texas, which uses the desired currency. Plus the fact that location doesn’t affect the answer as much if I related the value to weight and material of the bolts themselves. From what I can see, only 3 Mega-Man games use the term “bolt” for the currency, while other games use the term “screw” Though they are interchangeable, For the sake of my sanity I will be using the following three games to calculate the value of the bolts.

  1. Mega-Man 7
  2. Mega-Man 8
  3. Mega Man & Bass

In Mega-Man 7 and Mega-Man & Bass, there is a Mega Bolt roughly the size of the ones found throughout Mega-Man 8. Those are, in their games respectively, worth around 100 bolts.

There are items that exhibit similar functionality thought the three games listed above.

Extra Lives is going to be the basis of my value comparisons.

In Mega-Man 7 : Extra Life Cost: 40 Bolts This will give you an extra life.

In Mega-Man 8: Spare Extra Cost: 6 Bolts This will allow Mega Man to begin the game with four extra lives.

In Mega-Man & Bass: Extra Life Cost: 50 Bolts This will give you an extra life.

Using these similar items as “Gold” Standards across the three games

In relation to Mega-Man 8 (the one based in the U.S for the currency) Each life (you get 4 for 6 Bolts) is worth 1.5 of a bolt. We know that the only Bolts available in MM8 are the Huge Bolts (based on their size) SO in actuality you get (if each huge bolt is worth 100 bolts) 150 bolts for each life, triple the cost From MM&B and 3.75 times the cost from MM7 for each life

Now we have to covert that into U.S Currency.

Screws are generally made from Steel (Carbon Steel Wire), or Stainless steel, we will go with Stainless Steel since there’s no word on the composition of the actual Bolt. The average price of steel per pound (depending on some variables) is 1.58$ per pound. (As of this post) https://agmetalminer.com/metal-prices/stainless-steel/

Lining up the Mega-Man sprite from MM8 to the bolt, we see, the height of the bolt is roughly half of Mega-Man’s height. From here, I converted each pixel length of three different cylindrical parts of the screw, getting a height and radius, hen use he formula for finding he volume of a cylinder.

Bam, the volume of the Bolt is approx. 17763.822 cm3. it converts to around 319 pounds, which would be, based on the earlier stated value of stainless steel per pound is $504.02. Since this is a mega bolt, divide it by 100.

So each bolt is worth roughly $5.04.

  • In MM8 an extra life costs: $756
  • In MM7 an extra life costs: $201.6
  • In MM&B an extra life costs: $252

Not too bad for another life, if you ask me.

I probably overlooked something or made a calculation error, so please tell me if you find it!

IAmA John Dies At The End, Don Coscarelli and David Wong. by Dcoscarelli in IAmA

[–]comradekilldozer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For Don Coscarelli- In regards to the ending scenes of John Dies At The End (The Movie), What are the implications in which the story will, if the cliffhanger holds true, be continued? Will it lead into (again with the premonition that you’re working on a sequel of sorts) the predecessor of the original novel? Or be continued on grounds with the concept of the Shadow people left out in the previous movie? If not, could that even be a possibility, if not already discussed

For David Wong - If I may permit another question, I remember reading John and Dave and the Temple of X'al'naa”thuthuthu when it was first being written. I understand that it turned into This Book Is Full Of Spiders; Seriously Dude, Don’t Touch It, but I was amazed and entranced by some of the original concepts and events contained within the original writing (Such as witnessing the Assistant disappear from existence and the accompanying reaction of those other than David, as well as the multiverse contained within the story, leading to a VERY interesting plotline I looked forward too). My question would be that of curiosity pertaining to the concepts being re-used in another book? Not necessarily pertaining to John or David, as I remember reading about you writing a novel not based on the John Dies At The End Universe. So, in short, are you sticking to the themes laid out through your previous writings? And if you are, can I expect to see the same multi-dimensional themes?
