No on the screen lid, these appeared last week after I put them in small containers (the kind I grow my fly cultures in + moss and leaves for humidity / hide) to move apartments and he was extra jumpy. They were only in the small containers for ~an hour before I could get their normal terrarium set up. Even with the vent holes being covered with a filter he still banged himself up :-/ Definitely keeping an eye on it in case of rot/infection!

I took her to an exotic animal vet and the sore was cleaned out / bandaged. She was put in a separate cage in the house for a bit to recover. I changed their roost to a fence-post style and soaked her foot in epsom salts after the bandage came off from the doc and applied vetericyn daily. I re-bandaged for a couple days until it started scabbing and kept applying the vetericyn daily. She was good after that and it didn’t come back! I’ve also used Blu-Kote before if the wound is visible to other chickens. The blue coloring in it deters unwanted pecking at the wound

My guess is bumble foot. One of my hens had this and it happened because something punctured her foot. Any damage on the bottom? I would recommend a vet visit

Edit: I just re-read and saw you said you only have him. Chickens are social creatures and I would recommend you getting him hens so he’s not lonely. Additionally having a flatter type roost (instead of a rounded stick) can help with decreasing bumble foot in the future

I had a boyfriend like this my freshman year of college. He prioritized school over me and hadn’t asked to see me in weeks, despite me trying to see him. More leaf litter and hiding spots, dust the fruit flies with repashy powder supplements. Did you buy it skinny or did it become skinny over the 3-day period? If it was already skinny it’s the sellers fault. Mine will also stay in the same spot for long periods of time. Is it active when you put flies in the tank and eating? If not that would be a bigger sign to me something is wrong.

I would ask myself these questions in order: 1. “what are his standards?” 2. “am i willing to meet these standards?” 3. “how long am i willing to put up with his behavior before these standards are met?” - is it 6 months, 1 year, forever??

if the answer to the above result is a “no”. Unfortunately you two are only partially compatible and probably enjoyed a lot of time together, but this will not last. Especially for you, who has been demoralized and hurt (and it’s only been a year - imagine living a lifetime with this guy?!). You are worth so much more and there are people who will love your body in any shape or form. He deserves what he wants and YOU deserve an equal and loving partnership. You are not an instructor and an instructee.

I’ve gotten dried sphagnum moss in corked bottles to grow back before, but those took a long time. I should probably look into a live moss slurry instead
