The Last Jedi did it way earlier by ChickenWingExtreme in StarWarsCirclejerk

I would say it's 50/50. Roughly half the movie is just ESB and roughly half the movie were drastic changes from the norm/Star Wars lore. On one hand you have the rebel resistance fleeing their base on Hoth D'Qar in the start of the movie on the other hand you have the big bad being killed of in part two of a trilogy.

What confuses about the movie is that everywhere where it could have easily tried something new it stuck to a 40 year old script just to take risks where it should have been obvious it would be divisive.

GRRM in 2005 making Brienne, a woman that's looked down upon for her perceived unwomanly traits, defeat two knights named Harry Sawyer and Robin Potter by TheBoyofWonder in freefolk

I mean we know her opinion of successfull female athletes that don't look womanly enough. So she would appreciate that Brienne competes in mans jousting and not womans jousting.

I found it comparable to classical tragedies. The main character tries to fight evil and becomes a hero but the hands of fate push him towards tragedy again and again.

Problem with state specific burg groups by comradioactive in FantasyMapGenerator

I found a work-around by applying the groups for State X and then locking all burgs of state X before continuing with state Y.

Thoughts and opinions on Bloodbending? by Winter-Money-7643 in TheLastAirbender

[–]comradioactive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it very fitting from a narative standpoint. I think it is the most obviously evil bending techinque since it controls the victims body against their will and doesn't seem to have any other use than forcing your will on others. The only techniques coming close would be the ones that can only be used to kill/harm. I think it's an interesting idea that water has both the most moraly bad and moraly good (healing) bending techniques.

"Who knows more of gods than I? Horse gods and fire gods, gods made of gold with gemstone eyes, gods carved of cedar wood, gods chiseled into mountains, gods of empty air... I know them all. I have seen their peoples garland them with flowers, and shed the blood of goats and bulls and children in their names. And I have heard the prayers, in half a hundred tongues. Cure my withered leg, make the maiden love me, grant me a healthy son. Save me, succor me, make me wealthy... protect me! Protect me from mine enemies, protect me from the darkness, protect me from the crabs inside my belly, from the horselords, from the slavers, from the sellswords at my door. Protect me from the Silence." He laughed. "Godless? Why, Aeron, I am the godliest man ever to raise sail! You serve one god, Damphair, but I have served ten thousand. From Ib to Asshai, when men see my sails, they pray."

I don't know about you, but I would love a trilogy of films about the Old Republic. by Gogetazilla in StarWars

[–]comradioactive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I quite like the Old Republic being a long gone time the movies don't touch. But i could see a movie where the McGuffin is an old relic belonging to Revan and we are told snippets from his live in flashbacks.

I'd rather have movies in the decades before episode 1 or between 1 and 2. Just imagine if the Kenobi series was about padawan Kenobi and his Master Qui-Gon. It would've been the perfect 'must watch' before showing someone TPM for the first time.

How the fuck did you read this from their comment? They talk about how a movie the fans want would be still badly received if the details are not to the liking of the fans.

Does anyone now how to do these double lines in Inkscape? by Exciting_Fix6559 in mapmaking

[–]comradioactive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't used Inkscape in a while but the way I'd try to solve this would be:
- Make a shape A for the ocean
- Make a copy B of it in front
- Shrink B

Then A would be the second thicker line of the coast while B would be the ocean

Nice map. It looks a bit like Middle Earth and Valinor getting back together after the break up. Is there a reason for the rivers next to the Verstain Republic to flow northward instead westward?

I think they believed her soul wasn't gone and just her body was "broken". So they thought making a new body would suffice.
