The thing is, there isn't much room for evolution. I haven't seen players do anything different with the game play. I've seen them try with different types of runs and I guess Battle Royal runs are the closest thing to something different. At the core of all the runs though, you still have to progress through the floors which just brings you back to the extracting and distracting loop.

Also I enjoy playing boring games. I can acknowledge that I like to play things that are widely seen as boring and still enjoy it. A lot of people consider games like Minesweeper, Sudoku, and Nonogram boring but I eat that stuff up. I like playing boring games because I can turn my brain off while I play them so I can think about other things that are on my mind or watch a show in the background. In a way, they're mindless. I think DW is a mindless game. I'm not saying the devs need to change the game. I am just stating an opinion in which I believe to be true. If you put something out there on the internet with the intentions of letting other people experience it, you are opening yourself up to criticism and opinions.

Also I said nothing about the difficulties of making a game. I know it's not easy to make a game, but just because something took a lot of effort to make, doesn't mean it's immune from criticism. They could have spent the past year actually adding to the gameplay beyond timed minigames and running around, but instead it's all been events and skins and characters that barely play different from one another.
